212"If a goal is worthy, then any means taken to attain it is justifiable."
An individual might set up a multitude of goals in one’s life, which serve as the blueprint of success. How should we pave the way to the blueprint? The speaker asserts that any measure taken to attain it is justifiable. However, in my opinion, it is no doubt that we should do our best to achieve those goals – on the assumption that those efforts are legitimate and appropriate.
To begin with, we have to clarify what we mean by the worthy goal. Absolutely, different people are in possession of different valuable aims in their mind, which range from being a scientist or earning money to support the family to pursuing the loving of the lover. However, certain other persons’ so-called worthy goals may de harm to the society. For instance, Hitler’s worthy goal is to dominate the whole world and to be an autocrat; thus massacred the Jew. Those goals themselves are deleterious – let alone achieving them justifiably. Considering this, apart from those that would endanger the human and society, the goal which satisfies individual’s desire and addresses personal needs is valuable.
Admittedly, on the basis of the defined worthy goal, we should exert our utmost to attain them. It is those goals and our efforts to achieve them that collaborate to accelerate the prosperity of society and the improvement of human. On a social level, without scientists’ diligence research, the science and technology would not progress; without politicians’ far-sighted plan, the society would not evolve; without entrepreneurs’ consistent pursuits of benefit, the economy would remain stagnant. Additionally, on a personal level, the spirit of striving to live our dreams paves the way to the success. History lends some credence to this assertion. Madam Curie, celebrated chemist, devoting herself to studying the chemistry in a small shabby house and finally discovered the element Ra – for the goal of pursuing the truth of knowledge and making contribution to her nation and.
Nevertheless, over insisting on the goal which are obviously far outweigh our capability is counterproductive to the improvement of society, as it is a waste of time and social resource. That is to say we should learn to give up and stop where it should stop. Confronting a goal, it is wise for us to think over whether it is feasible; otherwise we are determined to fail. Just imagine an individual jumps thousands of times every day to achieve his goal of flying in the sky like a bird. Will this absurd “dream” come true at last?
Moreover, struggling to attain one’s goal doesn’t amount to taking any measure which might exceed the limits of law and moral. In the first place, the success achieved by unfair and illegal ways would not be acknowledged by the public. For example, in an attempt to pass the exam, the candidate may cheat in the exam. From then on, even though he passes the exam, he would be looked down by the classmates because of his/her dishonest. What’s worse, taking certain inappropriate measures may ruin one’s life. In an attempt to achieve certain academic fruitions, Woo Suk Hwang created the notorious scandal which plunged himself into a dilemma of critic.
In sum, when our goals are really worthy and meaningful, we should spare no efforts to pursue them. However, those measures we take must conform to legal and moral principles and only in this way would our ultimate success be acknowledged by the public.
