Many teachers assign homework to students every day. Do you think that daily homework is necessary for students? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

Many decades ago, our ancestor lived a relatively simple life. They learned handicraft skills by living with their teachers. The industrialization however, has greatly changed our way of life in 21st century with the development of science. We have developed a completely new way of studying. Therefore, it has become a controversy whether homework is indespensible for children. As far as I am concerned, I inclined to hold a positive position toward this issue.

Homework is necessary because it could help students establish an active learning habit. We are human beings with the lazy nature seared into our genetic makeup. After a day’s study, the very first thing we want to do would definitely be relaxation. It would not only be the need of our body but be the need of enhance studying effeciency as well. Paradoxically, too much relaxation would in turn deteriorate the effect of learning. Homework with appropriate intensity would poise the delicate balance between good study and enough relaxation.

Secondly, by doing homework we could not only assimilate with the theory learned during daytime, but also prepare for the knowledge we are about to learn the next day. As we all know, review and preparation are both significant parts in learning. In order to assimilate and strengthen the knowledge we learned, we need to do a lot of work after class. Take mathematics as an example, we need to do numerous practises with a variety of types to get a better understanding of the usage of a theory. And other academic fields like linguistics, musicology and philosophy would function in almost the same way.

By and large, I concede that redundant assignments would exert in a negtive way on the well-rounded development of children. But the benefits of moderately assigning homework could totally overwhelm the weaknesses by contrast.
