Watching movies is one of my favorite activities in my spare time. Some friends are fond of serious movies, while others are fascinated by the amusing ones. As far as I am concerned, I would prefer the serious movies, for they are more informative, deeply moving and likely to be classic.

To begin with, I can gain a lot of knowledge from the serious movies. For instance, I only knew that Kangxi was a powerful Emperor in Qing dynasty
before I watched the movie Emperor Kangxi, which narrated the experience of Kangxi. He took control over the empire when he was still a child, later crushed the rebellion in the southwest, expanded the empire in the northwest against Russia and so on. From that movie, I knew more about the history around seventeenth century. Although it was a fiction instead of documentary, it, as serious movies usually do, corresponded to （accorded with 更合适?) what really happened in history. On the other hand, the amusing movies like to twist the history for the purpose of entertainment.

Furthermore, I am always moved by the serious movies. No doubt, serious movies are profounder and tend to make audience weep bitter tears. While watching the movie The Graduate, I burst into tears when Elaine discovered the affair between Ben and her mother, and left with a broken heart. Indeed, God made fool of people. Later I cried again when Elaine accepted Ben at the end. I understood in tears that everyone should be forgiven and given a second chance for the sake of true love. Speaking of amusing movies, nothing remains after a burst of laugh.   

Lastly, most of classic movies are serious movies. I love classic, whether memorable or thought provoking, which can be viewed over and over again. Look at the winners of Oscar or take a glimpse of the DVDs shelved in our bookcases, serious movies occupy most of the positions, such as Titanic, Forrest Gump and Scent of Woman.

In brief, facing a serious movie and an amusing movie, I will definitely pick up the former. （350）

I'm also not sure about the concept of serious movies. Maybe it's better to say "such as The Shawshank Redemption, Citizen Kane and Green miles".
Anyway I guess the examiners means "movies which are serious, not just for fun" and they might not care about the accuracy of the concept so much, considering the 30 minutes given. :) :handshake
