Agree or disagree: Getting advice from the older friends is more valuable than getting advice from friends at your age. (2007.8.11)

To accept advices from friends at my age would be a better choice for me. Since we are at the same age, they can totally understand what kind of situation I bump into. And the more important thing is that they know what I really want and what I am thinking about. In contrast, older friends have different life experiences from me. Such differences between older friends and me might induce that what they recommend is not what I really need.

To begin with, friends at the similar age always have many things in common. Due to the same growth background, they might like to play the same activities, to listen the same kinds of musics, and share the same taste on idols. For example, if I ask one of my friends for some interesting songs, older one might recommend jazz music, whereas younger one show me some rock and roll music. The fact is that I would prefer rock and roll music rather than country music. In short, because of the similar taste among friends at the same age, the advices from them are more efficient than those from older friends.

Secondly, it is easier to get advices from same age friends than from older friends. In practice, I spend most of my time to stay with the same age friends. In the daytime, I study with my classmates who are at the same age with me. After school, my spare time is mostly spent in my apartment with my roommate who is also at my age. Since I have less activities with older friends, it is hard to receive response from them when I get in trouble or have some problems.

Admittedly, older friends have more life experiences, and they might know more and can teach me more about the life, but they might not be familiar with topics that I am interested in. Besides, they usually are not around me when I need help.

In conclusion, I need advices that fit in my situation and that are more simply to get. Hence, I prefer to ask for a favor from friends at my age who know what I want and who are around me every day.
