It has long been put into qualm in deciding whether it is better to work for a large company or a small one. Advocating working in the small company are those people who hold the belief that small company brings more opportunities to go to an upper position. However, in my point of view, people should choose the large company, when considering the chance to learn more and the notable honor it brings.
The first reason for my propensity to the large company is that we are likely to learn more in a large firm. On one hand, there are more employees in a large company, thus it is easy to get a lot of information from those people we will meet every day. On the other hand, big company has more qualified and knowledgeable people than the small one. From those people we could learn a lot. Generally speaking, a big company is like a large school with plenty of high qualified teachers. We are like the school’s new students, and the old staff are all our teachers. If we encounter a problem that is hard for us to solve, there are many “teachers” for us to reaching for help and learn from them. When knowledge plays the key role in determining future success, this advantage is strikingly important.
Another essential reason is that to work in a large company is a great honor for many people. Large companies such as Coca-cola, Nike and Sony have a great effluence among people yet it is extraordinarily difficult to enter such companies. Thus, a large number of people try to enter these corporations but less can achieve. Consequently, being a number of these companies becomes the proof of a person’s capability and a mark of gaining esteem of other people.
Admittedly, the advantage of working in the small company cannot be denied and neglected. Because there are less number of people in a small firm, the competition there is certainly much less than working in a large firm. Consequently, we may have more chance to get a high position with less effort. As an upper position is a common goal for everyone, this merit of a small company is undeniable.
To sum up, it is true that small company brings undeniable advantages, however the opportunities to learn more and the honor a big company could provide obviously carry more weight than the small one.
