As group work is now more and more frequently used in teaching. It has long been put into qualm in deciding whether the credit given to the whole group can evaluate every student in the group. In my point of view, there are several undeniable disadvantages of this method.
The first reason for my disagreement is that someone may not work hard in a group. As group work require several students to work together to solve a problem, someone may get a free ride and let other students finish their parts. As a result, if those who do not work hard in a group get the same grade as the delligent(diligent) students, the hard-working students will complain about such method. What is more, students who have worked more but received little might not get on well with those who get the same grade without paying too much attention. It is reasonable to predict that the relationship between students might have been jeopardized by such an evaluation system.
Another reason why I oppose this method is that the outstanding students such as a leader in a group should be prised(praised) by given a high grade. Sometimes a group may have a leader who is responsible(responsible) for checking the works and distributing(distributing) the jobs. This leader would have much more burden than the ordinary group members. Thus, it is unfair to give them the same credit as others. They should be praised for their effort and the best reward is a high mark which they are catering to.
In addition, if the students were given different credit according to their performance(performance) in doing the work, they will pay more attention to their jobs and try their best to accomplish their mission as well as possible in order to obtain an ideal score. By this way, credit is used as an encouragement to stimulate students’ interests and attention.

To sum up, it goes without saying that giving the group the same credit holds considerable disadvantages. The lazy students get extra credit and the hard-working students get unfair marks. Thus, in my perspective, an evaluation system that is based on each student's performance is necessary.
