Due to time constraints, he will unfortunately be unable to offer individual interviews in addition to his group presentations, but looks forward to informally meeting Chinese students interested in Middlebury. $ J2 m" g- n1 }* k

' N3 G1 S& u1 P, g8 `Middlebury is committed to creating as geographically diverse a student body as possible; we have students from all 50 states of the U.S. and from over 70 countries. It is important to us to try and meet as many potential applicants to Middlebury as possible, so our admissions staff travels extensively both within the US and beyond. We very much enjoy and benefit from meeting in person students and their families from China who may be interested in learning about Middlebury College and other similar small liberal arts colleges in the U.S.) I0 B1 Y/ Q+ d; C; _: s

, Q( u3 |2 J$ P. e o7 l9 N
t" L9 ~& F1 {2 ~ r4 v* cCertainly we are looking for students who excel academically and have achieved at a high level in high school. Middlebury is a rigorous and challenging college academically and our students typically were among the top in their high school classes. However, we are also looking for students who will contribute to the community at Middlebury, be it in athletics, the arts, politically, in journalism – Middlebury is a small and very dynamic community, and we look for students who we feel will contribute to our community. Middlebury students tend to be very active, and participate in a number of activities beyond their academic studies.

, }* z+ j6 ^$ |$ \" ~Middlebury welcomes supplementary materials that demonstrate a particular talent or expertise that you possess – a CD of a music performance, for instance, or a DVD of a dance piece. However, we don’t encourage sending in copies of certificates of achievement, honors won, etc. – you can describe such achievements in the application, but it isn’t necessary to send evidence of them. Remember that admissions officers read many, many applications, and large numbers of awards, photos of hobbies and activities, etc. are additional work that don’t enhance one’s chances of admission. 7 ^9 a, T2 h% k8 \8 x! i9 b

4. How can Chinese students learn about the many colleges and universities in the U.S. and narrow the list to those that might be best for them?6 q( ]$ H! Q4 e8 d9 V
3 [8 K9 D3 ` _6 _- n3 i" ]The internet is a superb resource and allows students to gather lots of useful information. All colleges and universities have their own web sites of course; and many have a service by which you can email students at that school to ask questions…… |
