Is it more important for a teacher to help students gain self-confidence than to teach specific knowledge?

It is a desirable for a student to have self-confidence. With this quality, one can stand out and be recognized more easily by the society in that he can present himself in a more natural and comfortable way. However, dose the teacher should help students obtain such a quality? As far as I am concerned, the major task of the teacher can answer this question. As the second-parent of students, a teacher’s main duty is to teach the students specific knowledge which they can not learn well just by themselves, it is more important that the teacher help students with their knowledge.

First of all, with the increasingly growing development of the scientific and technological world, competition is getting more and more severe. If one desires to be useful and makes difference in the society, the basic reqirement is that he must master some kind of particular knowledge so that he can do professional things. And the best way to get professional knowledge is to learn from their teachers. Teachers in different majors have mastered specific knowledge much better than students and they also have abundant teaching experience to help them understand which part of their knowledge should be imparted to the students to enhance their ability. Plus, they can solve various difficult problems the students meet. So with the help of teachers, a student can obtain professional and useful knowledge, which is the primary element of his or her coming into the society.

It is true self-confidence is important for the sake that confidence can make one show the best part of himself. Just imagining a student standing on the platform and ready to give a presentation, there may be two different kind of situations, be confident and not to be confident. Obviously self-confidence can make this student a better presentation. But it is only by the student himself to build such a attribute. He must overcome the inner fear and shy part of himself.

All in all, though confidence and specific knowledge are both significant for a student. It is necessary for the teacher to help students with their knowledge and enhance their professional ability in the society and the students help themselves to build self-assurance.

All in all, though confidence and specific knowledge are both imprtant for a student, it is the teacher's duty which decides that teacher should help the students with their specific knowledge while the students themselve to build up confidence themselves
