Is it more important for a teacher to help students gain self-confidence than to teach specific knowledge? 2007.3.10教育类

Confidence is crucial in ones growth. People lack of confidence usually fear of difficulties and criticize himself which easily lead to communicate disability or even psycho problems. I agree the statement that confidence is important for anyone without conservation.However, I am far from agree when people claiming confidence overweight knowledge as a responsibility of the teacher.

When building skyscrapers, the depth and scope of the foundation determine the height of the building. Similarly, confidence can not be attained without knowledge. People confident because they are expert in certain areas and can provide immediate solution as soon as the problems arise. They have global concept and possess merits which conttribute to building confidence. Some claim that they have nothing but confidence when asked to solve problems. Exciting such words might sound, it is far from the soul of confidence. Actually, confidence without supporting of knowledge is more like conceit in most cases. Since knowledge is the foundation of the confidence, teachers have no excuse to put more time in helping students learn more knowledge.

Sometimes knowledge trigger confidence and it happens even more in school. Since students have less materials to make themselves outstanding, being a good students offer their a excellent chance. A students good at study can always arouse attention of the others. And people are willing to ask them for help because knowledgeable person usually have the correct answer. The more people ask, the less they don't know. The more they aware of, the greater feeling of achievement will arrive. And greater confidence they will gain. It will also impetus the study in turns. Therefore, a confident student will be produced since the conditions are ripe --- in another word, knowledge lead to confidence.

Lastly, schools are places where students receive knowledge and learn skills. Although confidence is important for students, the main reason they go to school is learning knowledge. Parents pay large amount of money on their offspring's education, the investment deserve a good outcome. According to general principles,a confident student knows nothing is not acceptable. Moreover, parents can help their offspring gain confidence as a complement while for most of them, specific knowledge are virtually beyond their reaches. It is better off if the teacher act as a supplement in the confidence part. Compare with unpredictable personal emotion, the knowledge part is where they are more familiar with.

In conclusion, teacher should put emphasis on teaching knowledge not only because of knowledge is more important than confidence but also lies in the fact that they can offer more help on knowledge rather than confidence.
