It is totally not a seldom issue that whether grades can urge students to learn. Some people aver that schools and parents should not emphasize grades which will lay tremendous stress on students. However, as far as I am concerned, grades are definitely beneficial to students, because of the following reasons.

First and foremost, grade-centered education puts pressure on students so as to spur learning. No one is reluctant to take the lowest score among his or her classmates in that the lowest suggests the worst. In order not to fall behind, every individual has to work hard and make progress. Thus, grades encourage students to learn hard.

Additionally, grades are standards for students to evaluate their master of knowledge. If students attend to class without taking any test or exam, they can not realize what their niches in the class and if they have completely absorbed the knowledge they learned. Therefore, grades are crucial for students to examine their study and improve themselves.

Moreover, high grades render students self-confidence and spur them to learn more. Generally, high scores are considered as the symbol of brilliance and competence, which will endow students with a sense of confidence. As a result, they will work harder to gain higher scores. With the accumulation of knowledge, students will get closer and closer to the door of success.For example, when I was in high school, I have several high grades in biology, highly recognized by my teacher and other students. This gave me considerable confidence with myself and encouraged me to dedicate more effort and energy in biology. Finally I chose biology as my major in university.

All in all, I firmly stand by the supporting side that grades do help students to learn and even learn more.
