Agree or Disagree: university students should be required to take basic science classes even they are not part of the field of the study. 2007年7月7日教育类

Students have to study considerable amount of courses in university. As their study area is highly specialized, someone feel reluctant to learn basic science courses. As far as I am concerned, I believe it is essentially necessary for university students to learn about basic science.

Basic science classes can provide students with some basic pattern or universal principles which will be great helpful for their further study. For example, Biologist sometimes have to employ statistics method to help research while Biology seems irrelevant to Mathematics. Economics employ Mathematics as a powerful tool to convert complex problem to a simple one. In fact, without Mathematics, economist can not even establish proper pattern, needless to say predict the trend of the economy and the following estimation and evaluation.

Sometimes the collision of divergent mind can bring us some pleasant surprising. For example, according to general principle, Literature and Physics to some extent are irrelevant subjects, however, this strange coupling generate a new literature form called science fiction literature. As technology keep developing, when Computer Science was introduced to Literature area, the famous Robot Rules came into birth. As a matter of fact, there is no subject exit without any other kinds of knowledge involved.

Moreover, studying basic science provide students an excellent chance to figure out their real interest which will benefit or even changed their life. For instance,my roommate whose major was Architecture becoming interested in Physics after studying several courses. After a short consideration, he changed his major because Physics can give him pleasure and sense of fulfilment. Now he is an expert in this area and have a promising future. Therefore, maybe you should consider taking an History class now if you are a science students.

In sum, I believe basic science is indispensable for university students because it is useful and helpful in many aspect of study.
