The urbanization trend is prevailing among the world. Since more people tend to work in the city, the extended family seems to lose its appeal to urban citizens.However, I believe extended family is better than small scale family because it possess some merits that other forms have no way of grasping,

Firstly, in extended families, the relationship between parents and children is more closer than that of small scale family. Given tremendous pressure from society, parents in small scale family can allocate only little time to their offsprings. They have to work during the day to earn money to support the family. After a hole days work, there are household works and other disturbing things waiting for them. Communication between children and parents is limited which often exert bad influence to children's growth. We often hear people saying "youth problems", "children injured". To some extent, these consequences are the result of small family pattern. However, living in extended families, such problems can be avoided by appropriate care and guidance from their grandparents or other relatives.

Another important factor of extended family is that you can get more help than living in small scale   family. Since in extended family, people live together and form close relationship between each other, when meeting difficulties, they could overcome together. Sometimes this is extremely important especially when the condition is urgent, such as unexpected disease or accident, raise money in limited time will be much more easier in extended families. While communication is often rare and inconvenient, people in small family can hardly receive immediate help from family members.

Last but not the least, living together in extended families also bring great convenience to us. In compact families, the only chance for family members get together may be the Spring Festival vocations. All too often, go back home to gather around in that time of the year is often a disaster, not only the tickets is difficultly available, but transportation is often overcrowded. After a long exhausting trip, I believe anyone would have no energy or mood to participate in other activities. If people live together, such embarrassing situation would be avoided, they can get together every weekend.

In sum, as the reasons I mentioned above, I believe extended family is better than small scale family. Because in extended family, people could can form better relationship, get immediate help and get together more conveniet.
