personal thoughts from felips
The first paragraph seems too long and dense for reading...
Education, broadly definedas one of the most important part of social resources, plays a verysignificant role in our society such as transmitting democratic values, preparing new generations of citizens and so forth. (The importantce of education) Therefore, it isnecessary to improve the availability of educational resource in orderto make education effective (necessity of effective education). But when it comes to the issue how toguarantee a effective education, there is a heated argument amongpeople.(this sentence seems dispensable) Personally, I agree with speaker that education will be trulyeffective when it is specially designed to meet the individual needsand interests of each student, which we called student-orientededucation. Nevertheless, we must not allow education satisfies theindividual needs and interests excessively regardless of the result, otherwise, it will be more detrimental than beneficial to society. (Balanced viewpoints)
First of all, it is top ofthe list of my viewpoint that student-oriented education is the mosteffective way to help student learn and make the best use ofeducational resource (dual effects, sounds compelling). Since the student-oriented education meet theindividual needs and interests of each student, it can motivatestudents to learn what they like most without any enforcement, evenencourage them to go on and never give up when they are in trouble intheir select area (give students strong motivation). In turn, it also greatly improves the learningefficiency of students (seems repeating the previous sentence) and provides students clear goals what they wantto achieve because of the benefit of the student-oriented education (illogical, why "it" can provides students goals? also the "because of" is not clear, the author'd better analyze why). Insuch a case, the students could learn their best-loved things byutilizing resources fully and actively what they can get. So it is avirtuous cycle (what circle, it should made more explicitly) that we can maximize the use of educational resource. Agood example is Beethoven, one of the greatest composers and musicians, created many symphonies. Astonishingly, he produced his most symphony,Chorus, with complete deafness. How could he manage it? It must be thefaith and passion for music that stimulated him to struggle and thrive, thus he can even listen in spite of no hearings.(this example seems not support the point, does Beethoven made good use of education resource available?) Just as the Englishproverb goes, “interest is the best teacher”. So the student-orientededucation is very beneficial for students.
Moreover, whether theeducation satisfies the individual needs and interests of each studentdecides that it is truly effective or not. (topic sentence, yet, in the last paragraph, the author has already talk about the effectiveness and whether education ......, here seems just another repeat) As we know, the mostimportant function of education at any level is to develop thepersonality of the individual and the significance of his life tohimself and to others. So we can say there is an important relationshipbetween the efficiency of education and the oriented design ofeducation. (again, the above fact (As we know...) seems not support this conclusion) It is the excellent personality that leads he or she tosuccess. Furthermore, with the development of our society, the variousof aspects of society need more and more talents in every field (true). Butonly by meeting the individual needs and interests of each student foreducation, can students become the best talents in their areas (what you want to talk about?). Just aswe discussed above paragraph (yes, the author is again repeat the above paragraph from here on), it is the interests that provide greathelp for students who want to do the best in their interesting areas;it is the individual needs that give specific goal for students whowant to satisfy their needs. Without the interest and objective, howlong the student could go? Thus it could be a waste of educationalresource that a student learns what he or she doesn’t like because heor she resists the education, even abuse education resources, whichcause huge waste of educational resources. It is obvious that theeducation is not effective which does not meet the need of theindividual needs and interests of each student.
However, satisfying theindividual needs and interests excessively and even irrespective of theconsequence could result in chaos in society. (the following seems talking about education's satisfying social need but no chaos) For example, some basicsubjects about theory are very dull, such as mathematic, physic and soon, so few people like to study them purely voluntary and most ofpeople like to major practical and applying ones. But the basicsubjects are also important to the advance of our society and otherrelevant fields. (true, this is the main function of education) Without the research the basic academic fields, oursociety could come to a standstill. So, we need to take this intoaccount and cannot satisfy the individual needs and interestsexcessively when we design our education.
To sum up, given thereasons discussed above, which sometimes intertwine to form a wholeorganic and become more persuasive, we can safely conclusion thateducation will be truly effective only when it is specifically designedto meet the individual needs and interests of each student. But weshould not only meet the individual needs and interests of eachstudent, but also take an effective way to encourage the student tostudy some essential courses which he or she doesn’t like but veryimportant, even it is a bit mandatory. |
