Does study of animals help us to learn human nature?

With an increasing understanding of animals, it is a trend for scientists to apply kinds of animals as subjects to do experiments. Some people think study of animals is helpful for human being to learn better about human nature. However, as far as I am concerned, the best way to learn human personality is not by studying animals, but by observing ourselves.

To begin with, the huge difference between animals and human being decides that what we learn from studying animals is not necessarily making sense to human being. For example, some birds emigrate from a cold place to another warmer one to go through a chill winter, which is a special ability dedicated to emigrated animals. As it for human beings, they can build a house, design warm coat, and light a fire to fight coldness. That is the difference lies in normal animals and intelligent human beings.

Second, even in the field of animals studying, different research ways should be classified to fit different animals, not to mention the learning of human nature. A recently study by Professor Gorge, a psychology expert in Cornell University, reports that the intelligence of animals, taking human being into consideration, depends on the weight ration of brain and spinal cord. Statistics indicate this ration is 0.8 for small vertebrates, 4 for dolphins, 8 for primates who are thought to be close to human beings. Yet when it comes to a person, the ration is 50. the gap lies in these numbers means that personality learned from animals can not demonstrate the truth of human nature. Just like we can not expect a bird can swim while a fish can fly.

Admittedly, to a certain extent, human beings are advanced animals who are involved for thousands and hundreds years. So it is reasonable to find some merits in common between them. However, it does not mean we can depend on our breakout on animals study to reach human nature.

To sum up, if we want to learn human nature, it is not wise trying to find answer on animals. Why not go straight to people themselves?
