Teacher's ability to relate well with the students is more important than knowing the subject well

When referring to the topic that what characteristics is more significant for a good teacher, some students claim that good communication skill is more important, while others believe a competent teacher should have excellent knowledge. However, as far as I am concerned, both two aspects are equally important.

The first reason for my opinion is that an incisive understanding of knowledge a teacher impart is a prerequisite to be a good teacher. No one can deny the fact that the aim for us to go to school is just to learn professional knowledge. We are longing to learn well, yet a teacher without such ability to teach well can not be referred to as a competent teacher, not to mention a good teacher. To illustrate my point, here is a good example that is very persuasive. I entered a not bad high school in my hometown, but unfortunately, our English teacher is sort of unsatisfactory, because he cannot even pronounce a word in a correct way, which exerts bad impact on our speaking. Although it is undoubted he is a easy going teacher, it will not efface the fact that he is not welcome by most students.

In addition, a teacher without a good communication skill is not a completely excellent teacher too, though he is quite good at what he teaches. Because the tasks for a good teacher are not only to impart knowledge to his students which make them competitive when they work in society, but also teach them to be kind persons. It will be regarded as one of the biggest failure to ignore the personal education. For instance, there is a teacher in my university; he is one of authorities at computer science. Unfortunately, he is not willing to talk with his students instead he spends most time working on his research. As a result, some students who study not so good cannot get any encouragement from him resulting in a even worse performance in this course.

Last but not the least, a good teacher with both excellent skill for teaching and good communication methods is usually considered as the most successful teacher. Because this teacher can solve both academic problems and psyche confusion. For example, my English professor in my college is a master of English, his criticism of a English poem is quite unique. What is more, he is always ready to help those who do not learn quite well and encourage them; as a result, the average score of our class ranks the first in our campus.

In sum, both good communicating skills and skillful knowledge are indispensable requirement to be a competent teacher.
