Teacher's ability to relate well with the students ismore important than knowing the subject well.
When I recall the teachers among my past fifteen years’ study, the most impressive ones are those who taught me a lot and taught a subject in a very charming way, not the ones who related well with me but knowing the subject not well enough. So I absolutely disagree with the idea that a teacher’s ability to relate well with the students is more important than knowing the subject well.
First of all, we students should recognize the main purpose to enter a school is not to make friends with our teachers but to learn the knowledge to enhance ourselves. The main function of schools is to educate, to make the grow-ups to gain the ability to live. Thus, the teacher should pay more attention on the subject (s)he teaches other than getting well with her(his) students. As to me, I will admire a teacher who knows the subject so well even the relationship between us is not so good.
Secondly, paying too much attention ongetting well with students will distract the teacher from knowing the subject well. The time is limited and I think our teachers should focus on gaining more knowledge of the subject they teach and thinking how to pass down the knowledge more efficient. If most of the students can learn from their teacher easily, there is no doubt that they will like the teacher.
Finally, I want to say that though knowingthe subject well is more important than relating well with the students, it doesn’t mean that the teacher should ignore the former one. Indeed, a better elationship will inspire the students to study much harder. It’s best that a teacher can do both of them well. But if one can’t, just realizes that knowing the subject well is more important.
