When it comes to the question that whether relating well is more important than knowing the subject well, divergent people have divergent opinions due to their distinct background and experience.As far as I am concerned, although a well-organized outline would make the students better undertand the information, a comprehensive and solid knowledge system is more important for a good teacher since the following reasons.

First and foremost, knowing well is the foundation of the ability to relate well. How can you teach the students if you even can not understand the subject? Hypothetically, you,as an English teacher,do not know the grammer very well. Never will you be called as a responsible teacher since you can not figure out the problems for the students when they are confused by the structure of the sentence, you can not correctly explain the grammer structure in the lecture, and even you will make some ironical mistake which is terrible for the students.

Subsequently, being familiar with subject is prone to a reasonable outline.Undoubtedly, only after well-rounded and profound knowing can you make a reasonable outline and convey the information to the students correctly and efficiently.Ususally, a lot of teachers make careful preparaion and outline before the lecture, at least they would know the material well for themselves,the more experienced the teacher is, the more detailed and comprehensive the preparation would be. Without any exaggeration, it is this careful preparation that make them know the information clearly and thus guarantee the logical and  well-organized lecture.

Admittedly, we have to admit that a good ability to relate is an imperative characteristic a teacher should possess. Although boasting large amount of knowledge, a lot of teachers is not good enough only because their disadvantages in relating the knowledge they already knew.However, only from this is insufficient to judge that this ability is more important than its foundation,knowing the subject well.

In a nutshell, knowing the subject well, which is the basis of relating the subject and a reasonalbe outline of the subject,plays a much significant role in conveying information to the students.
