Agree or disagree with the following statement: it is more important to award students for effort (trying or hard working) than for achievement (good grades)

Nowadays, it is very common that most schools and institutions only award students for their achievements, and ignore their ability and quality in other aspects. A myriad of people firmly believe that the first concerning of students is their academic performance such as grades in the exams, so it is rather reasonable to honor a students by his/her achievement. But, from my perspective, the purpose of education is not only to gain good grades in tests, but also to convey some profound ideas behind of academic achievement.

To begin with, to award students for effort is a way to encourage them to make progress in their daily study. As we all know, students with poor academic performance are often ignored by teachers and looked down by their classmates. When a student cannot follow the pace of the class, he will lag behind, sometimes even if he's hardworking. And the result is that there won't be anything honorable and beneficial for him in the school. Eventually, he may lose confidence and a lot of chances to communicate teachers to promote their study. But if we put the effort of a student in the first place, the prejudice of grades will be demolished. Every student, no matter whose grades is high or low, should try their best to make progress. So everyone of the class will be motivated to study well, that can benefit all of students.

Furthermore, to praise a student for effort is a kind of teaching method that can motivate them to explore the new area and deal with new problems. We can easily find the phenomenon that people with high status often have a feeling that they're superior to others, and tend to be conservative. And so does the students. If a student obtain a reward in the subject or field that they have already an insight in. He could continue to put his time and energy in this subject and miss the opportunity in other fields. This situation could lead to a lack of integrated skill and knowledge that finally hinder their step to move forward to make more discoveries about the new world. If a student lose the ability to find problem exist and the passion to solve it, he won't be qualified as a top student. Therefore, we should award students for effort to stimulate their enthusiasm to explore new areas and tackle with the problem they may encounter.

What's more important, to give priority to a student's effort will have a great influence to their future life, because no one can succeed all the time either in their career or the family lives. Thus, we need to focus on the process to achieve success rather than the results. For the students who fail in the exams, we should give him a guide to convince that they can do it well. As the famous saying goes: 'where is a will, there is a way'. When we pay more attention to the effort of a student, it a positive signal to him convey the idea that their altitude and will are very appreciated by the society. What they need is to keep on going. This spirit of optimism and the willing to succeed will fulfill the great expectations of students. Thereby, it's crucial and necessary to award students of efforts.

From the statement above, we can easily draw a conclusion that to award a student for his effort is appropriate and beneficial. At present, although there must be a large proportion of people who cannot agree with this proposal, to adhere to this police will give long term interests to the students.
