你同不同意说印刷书在二十年后将不复存在...(2007.8.4)

Science and technology are developing at a speed beyond our imagination. With the invention of the internet and other new communication tools such as cellphone, information becomes readily available. Some people claim that printed book will be entirely replaced by other more advanced forms such as electrical books in two decades. As far as I am concerned, this trend may be irreversible but hardly will it cause the disappearance of concrete books.

Words printed in papers are more reliable than those represented in other forms. The content of a book is carefully checked and repeatedly revised by both the writer and the editor for several times before they are available in the bookstore. Besides, people involving in publishing a book must take respective responsibility. Under such severe restriction, the quality and the correctness of information in a certain book are ensured. While the origin of the information coming from other resources such as the Internet is hard to track and thus less reliable.

Printed books have some functions that other form of information have no way to possess. For example, a series of masterpiece can serve as a collection when quota is introduced. It means after several years, the value of these books will be increased. Moreover, an old book also have emotional meanings. A book given by parents in one's early age would definitely remind him/her of the parental love that he/she received in childhood. A book as a gift came from friends with their best wishes can also bring back many pleasant recollection.

Moreover, the fact that printed books are convenienct and economical cannot be ignored. Books can be read in everywhere at any time since they are small in size and light in weight. They are popular around the world since almost everyone can afford the price. While alternative forms of books may require extra equipment and electricity which are often expensive and not easily available especially for those impoverished countries.

From all the factors mentioned above, we can safely reach a conclusion that printed book will still exist after two decade.

For example, a series of masterpiece can serve as a collection when quota is introduced. It means after several years, the value of these books will be increased.
