TOPIC: ISSUE70 - "In any profession-business, politics, education, government-those in power should step down after five years. The surest path to success for any enterprise is revitalization through new leadership."

A new leader is doomed to bring about new energy and new point of view which are vital for any enterprise, especially in political and business world. As the arther asserts, it is true that those in power should step down after a few years to maintain the strength and energy for a enterpriecs. However, in other field of professions, such as science and education, both new energy and adequate experiences are crucial for an enterprise. In addition, fives years is not exactly accurate for any enterprises. It depends on different professions and cases.
First of all, I try to explain the reason why the author asserts that the surest path to success for any enterprise is revitalization through new leadership. In my opinion, there are mainly two reasons for that assertion. Firstly, as we all know, nowadays the development of science and technology has changed at an increasing speed. The living and economic environment is developing faster than ever before. As a result, it is highly possible that a person in power for many years might be left behind by the changing world. Secondly, I cannot deny that it is dangerous to maintain power in one person for a period of time. Because the leader might inevitably make some benefits for himself at the cost of people's interests. Consequently, new leadership makes sense to solve the two risks above mentioned.
Admittedly, in the political and business world, new leadership means a lot to the development of an enterprise. It is so fierce and brutal that only new ideas and changes can make an enterprise survive from the political and business world. Also, as for the second reason above mentioned, this path is able to prevent a leader from using his power for some individual desire. For instance, in many countries of Middle Age, the monarch system was popular, in which a king is required to own the power of a country until he goes away, and then to pass his power to his sons or relatives. With the development of democracy, at present most nations have abandoned this kind of monarch system and tuned to a democratic system, in which a leader of nation is required to be reelected after four or five years. Obviously, the democratic system is more advanced than the monarch system, because it provides more vigor and opportunity to compete fairly in order to choose the best leader for a group of people. In business world, we can find the same truth, that new leadership by election brings about innovation, inspiration and power for an enterprise.
However, in the field of science and education, experiences are more important than the new energy brought about by the new leadership. As to a scholar or an educator, the broad knowledge about the whole scientific system and the insight to student's psychological characteristics are the foundation of his success. But this ability is impossible to be achieved in a short period of time. In this case, a long-term leadership might provide a good opportunity to develop stably towards a correct direction for an enterprise.
In summary, the author's assertion which requires "five years" and "surest path" seems too absolute. Although new leadership and experiences are both crucial for a success in any profession, yet we should realize that the importance of them differs from various fields of profession and differently specific cases. |
