Dwight Look College of Engineering
工程学院
Our Dwight Look College of Engineering ranks among the
finest and most comprehensive engineering programs in
the nation, and has 9,000 engineering majors enrolled in
our 12 departments. The faculty is dedicated to teaching,
research and discovery in all of the major engineering
fields. Texas A&M Engineering also includes three state
engineering agencies that provide engineering research,
education, and outreach. The college is constantly ranked
among the top engineering schools in the country,
especially in the areas of petroleum, nuclear, agricultural,
industrial, aerospace, civil, mechanical, and chemical
engineering. The college has prioritized internationalization
in its academic offerings and in its research.
International experience can be a highly valued resume
booster for graduating students, and the globalization of
engineering means that it is difficult to imagine future
engineers without some international exposure. For this
reason, the Dwight Look College of Engineering has
developed the International Engineering Certificate. The
International Certificate has four parts: language,
internationalization, global engineering design and
international experience. The college is currently building
strong academic relationships with universities in China
for A&M students to complete their international
experiences. There are formal and informal faculty and
student exchanges between A&M and Tianjin University,
Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Harbin Engineering
University, Hong Kong University of Science and
Technology, Ocean University of China, Xinjiang
Agricultural University, and Beijing University of
Technology.
Moreover, the College of Engineering has been actively
seeking research collaboration with counterparts in China,
in areas as diverse as supply chain management, coastal
engineering, IT research and development, and chemical
and petroleum engineering. The College of Engineering is
also working to establish a dialogue between leaders of
major U.S. and Chinese computer science departments, to
enable the U.S. leaders to gain insight into current and
future trends in information technology (IT) research in
China, and lay the groundwork for potential future
interactions.

Mays 商学院
Texas A&M University's Mays Business School educates 4,800 undergraduate, master's
and doctoral students in accounting, finance, information and operations management,
management and marketing. Our mission is to create knowledge and develop future
ethical business leaders for a global society, to enhance the global competitiveness of
American businesses and to accelerate the economic progress of the State of Texas, the
Southwest Region, and the nation through its international education, research, and
outreach activities.
International business education is a journey, not a destination. Because of this, the Mays
Business School has established the Center for International Business Studies (CIBS) and
our goal as a Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER-one of
31 in the U.S.) is to instill a global vision in our faculty and doctoral students to develop
international business research and teaching skills. In order to encourage Mays faculty
and doctoral students to become immersed in the international dimensions of their
disciplines, the center offers multiple study and research abroad opportunities for
students and faculty. For example, the School maintains exchange programs with
Guanghua School of Management at Peking University, Hong Kong University of
Science & Technology, and School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua
University.
In addition, the Mays’ Center for International Business Research and Education cosponsors
periodic faculty development programs in China with other CIBERs. Our
faculty also has strong research interests in areas such as strategic partner alliance with
Chinese firms, partner selection in China, the Chinese transition economy, and product
innovation in China, export processing zones in China, China’s stock markets, and
international strategic alliances with Chinese partners.

College of Architecture

With approximately 1,800 undergraduates and graduate
students, the College of Architecture at Texas A&M
University is the largest architecture school in the United
States, and has been consistently ranked among the top
design schools in the nation. The college educates leaders
of the built environment professions and industries in
Texas, the nation, and the world. As an integral part of its
ongoing teaching, research, and service initiatives, the
college has developed strong relationships with several
leading Chinese universities.
The College of Architecture conducts one of the nation's
most extensive study abroad and off-campus programs,
and is actively expanding the opportunities in China for
students to study architecture, planning, construction
science and landscape architecture and participate in
internship programs. The recruitment of Chinese graduate
students is also a strong priority for the Texas A&M
College of Architecture.
The college also maintains strong research programs
focused on key development issues within China. For
example, in 2004, the college teamed up with Tsinghua
University to co-sponsor a conference on healthy, livable
cities, which aimed to advance mutually beneficial
educational and research initiatives in the areas of
sustainability and health-care architecture. The college
also has strong research emphases in key areas, such as
population growth, increased urbanization,
industrialization and balanced economic growth, quality of
life, and environmental challenges—all areas of current
concern to many cities in China.
In 2007, the College of Architecture expanded its network
in China, negotiating memoranda of agreement with top
Chinese architecture schools including Tsinghua
University, Tongji University, Tianjin University,
Southeast University, and the University of Hong Kong.
The agreements will place the college at the hub of a
research and educational network that will eventually
expand to include as many as 15 Chinese universities. The
agreements promote research and educational
collaboration between participating institutions, provide
for the exchange of faculty between institutions, and set up
future study abroad venues for Texas A&M students,
allowing students, faculty and industry professionals to
collaborate across cultural barriers on a wide variety of
academic projects.
Chang-Shan Huang, associate professor of landscape
architecture and urban planning, and a graduate of
Tsinghua University in Beijing, will spearhead the College
of Architecture’s Chinese initiatives. He will be living in
China while on sabbatical during the 2007-08 academic
year, as the college’s first faculty exchange with Tongji
and Tianjin universities. In turn, the college expects to host
a professor from Tianjin University this spring.

College of Education and Human Development

The College of Education and Human Development, founded in 1969, strives to
facilitate the globalization of the college by supporting Texas A&M University's
Vision 2020 initiative to "diversify and globalize the A&M community." Our goal is
to teach, conduct research and provide service in the international arenas of the
university, the educational community and the world. The college provides
professional training in education, human resource development, sport
management, community health, technology management and exercise physiology.
The college is focused on internationalizing the educational experience of its students
both by hosting international students and by creating opportunities for Texas A&M
students to participate in international activities such as study abroad. The college has a
large number of graduate students from China, and is actively seeking to expand study
abroad opportunities in China. In addition, the college provides international
experiences to a much broader constituency, such as in-service teachers around the state,
through opportunities for international education. For example, in 2004, the college
teamed up with other campus units to provide a seminar on Chinese history and
culture, which took participants to Beijing, Xian, Chengdu and Shanghai.
Since November 2001, the Chinese National Academy of Educational Administration
(NAEA) and Texas A&M University have been developing other collaborative research
and administrative exchanges, in areas such as research methodology. In 2003, the
college hosted a three-week training seminar on Higher Education Administration. This
program was funded by both NAEA and the Chinese Ministry of Education and training
was provided by the Texas A&M higher education administration faculty and Division
of Student Affairs administrators. In addition, the college has extensive research and
educational exchanges with Xian Jiaotong University in the areas of university
administration and leadership development and has numerous faculty and graduate
students who conduct research in China, often with partners from Chinese universities.
The college, as a partner in Texas A&M’s Confucius Institute, works in the areas of
Chinese language teacher certification, professional development and outreach for K-12
teachers, professional development in college teaching for visiting faculty, and research
on curriculum and instructional methods.
教育及人力发展学院创建于1969 年。多年来，学院以得克萨斯州A&M大学的
“2020 展望”为宗旨，积极推动校园的国际化和多元化进程。在国际化大环境中，

The College of Liberal Arts offers curricula designed to
broaden horizons and enrich the quality of life, as well
as help produce informed and responsible citizens. As
part of this mission, the college is deeply involved in
research and teaching exchange with institutions in
China, and sees strategic relationships with China as
integral to the college’s international goals:
• A global awareness that enables comprehension of
differences
• A curriculum that promotes an international
perspective necessary to face the challenges of a
global and diverse multi-ethnic world
• High quality study abroad programs that enhance
intensive language learning and intercultural
understanding
• Educational programs that foster critical thinking and
embrace differences at home and abroad
As part of this vision, the college leads the university in
creating strong academic and study abroad components
to prepare students for engagement with China in their
future careers. For example, in 2007, the college began
offering an interdisciplinary minor in Asian Studies.
This program provides students with a broad overview
of Asian societies and history, as well as Asian languages.
In 2007, the college also created a new Arabic and Asian
Language Office in order to better coordinate and
accelerate teaching capacity in critical languages. The
college’s current offerings in Mandarin will be further
expanded by partnership in the Confucius Institute
project at TAMU. The college also sponsors several study
abroad experiences in China, including an annual
“International Communication” course in Shanghai,
which gives students opportunities for career-enhancing
internships with important companies doing business in
China.
The college also is seeking to enhance its reputation for
cutting edge and strategic research on China. One aspect
of this emphasis is the China Archive, an online data
archive dedicated to support of scholarly, empirical
research by social scientists and other academics that
helps to better illustrate the current state of Chinese
society. The goal of the Archive is to enable case research
on Chinese domestic matters and China-U.S. relations,
as well as to facilitate the inclusion of China in more
broadly comparative studies. The Archive’s mission
includes acquiring and maintaining extant data sets and
data sources on an ongoing basis, as well as creating
publicly accessible datasets to facilitate further scholarly
study of China. One major research initiative of the
college is the China Survey Project, which is overseen by
an international board of scholars and advisors, and will
seek to significantly enhance international
understanding of China by conducting wide scale public
opinion surveys in partnership with colleagues in China.

In the College of Science at Texas A&M University, our challenge is to
understand the extraordinary in the everyday, then use that knowledge to
go beyond the norm and improve our quality of life—one day and one
discovery at a time.
The College of Science takes great pride in providing the
highest quality of science education, scholarly research,
and technical expertise to the people and industries of
Texas, the nation and the world. Through five
departments and many interdisciplinary centers and
institutes, we advance discovery and solve real-world
problems as we produce the next generation of scientific
leaders and develop the technologies of the future. The
college has an excellent faculty, including National
Academy of Science members, a Nobel Laureate, and
other award winning faculty, and cutting edge facilities
for making scientific discoveries in the biological and
physical sciences.
Because the search for answers to the major scientific
questions before us today requires an increasingly
interdisciplinary approach, the college is forging
collaborations that break traditional barriers, combine
uncommon skills, and produce unparalleled results. The
college is active in international collaborations in a
number of areas of scientific research, and is developing
new collaborations with Chinese institutions. For
example, Dr. Wayne Goodman serves as an "overseas
academic master" at Xiamen University, Xiamen, China.
This program, which aims to upgrade the scientific
renewal and peers competition of Chinese universities
by establishing innovation centers and gathering
together groups of first-class minds from around the
world, is part of the new Ministry of Education's
initiative to tackle course innovation in colleges and
universities in China. It will bring in about 1,000
overseas researchers from the top 100 universities and
research institutes worldwide.
Likewise, Dr. Larry Griffing is working with the
International Association for Bear Research and
Management on a project named “Video Analysis of
Giant Pandas at Maternity Dens in Foping Nature
Reserve, China: Site Selection and Robotic Video
Feasibility Study”. This is a follow-up program to the
2002 “Panda Cam” science education cooperative
between the Virtual Science Museums of China and
Texas A&M University’s College of Science, College of
Education and Human Development and the NSFfunded
Information Technology in Science Center for
Teaching and Learning.

George Bush School of Government and Public Service

a noble calling, and we need men and women of character to believe in their
communities, in their states, and in their country."

The Bush School takes seriously the
challenge of educating future public
servants for strong leadership and
effective management, including
education in international affairs.
Although the Bush School’s
International Affairs Program is only
five years old, research and teaching
about China and interaction with
Chinese scholars have been major
features of the program from the
beginning.
The Bush School has several important
links to Chinese universities and
educational institutions. One example
is the strong working relationship with
the Shanghai Institute for International
Studies. Each institution has hosted a
conference for Chinese and Bush
School researchers —in Shanghai in
2005 and in College Station in 2006.
The relationship is further strengthened
by student exchanges, with graduates
from both programs having studied at
the partner school for each of the last
two years. The college has also
established an exchange with the China
Foreign Affairs University (CFAU),
which is linked to the Chinese Foreign
Ministry. Students from CFAU have
been enrolled in the Bush School for
each of the last five years and in May
2007, 15 Bush School students visited
their Chinese counterparts.
The Bush School also has a growing
research agenda focused on China,
including economic development (Dr.
Ren Mu), technology and public policy
(Dr. Xinsheng Liu), and Chinese
national security and world affairs (Dr.
Andrew Scobell). In 2007, the School
co-sponsored the Chinese Internet
Research Conference, which focused on
the diffusion and impact of information
technologies in China. In the same
year, the Bush School announced the
establishment of the Brent Scowcroft
Institute of International Affairs, named
after former National Security Advisor,
Lt. Gen. Brent Scowcroft. The institute
will promote policy-oriented
international research and exchanges
that will certainly include China within
it array of activities.
Finally, the Bush School of Government
and Public Service is proud to be one of
the sponsors of the George Bush China-
U.S. Relations Conference series. This
biennial conference has proven to be of
tremendous value in facilitating policy
discussions, bilateral relations, and
strengthening academic ties between
Texas A&M and the People’s Republic of
China.

目安排来自各机构的研究生在对方机构
进行最后2 个学年的学习。学院还和中
国外交部所属的中国外交学院
（CFAU）开展了交换学生项目。来自
CFAU 的学生在第五学年里可以在学院
注册学习，同时，2007 年5 月，15 名学
院的学生到中国走访了对方院校。
此外，学院还将更多的中国研究项目提
上议事日程，这其中包括由Ren Mu 博
士参与的经济发展研究项目，由
Xinsheng Liu 博士参与的技术与公共政
策研究项目和由Andrew Scobell 博士参
与的中国国家安全和世界事务研究项
目。2007 年，学院合作赞助了中国互联
网研究会议，该会议着重探讨信息技术
在中国的发展及对中国产生的影响。同
年，学院以前国家安全顾问Lt. Gen.
Brent Scowcroft 的名字命名，成立了
Brent Scowcroft 国际事务研究所，该所
将开展以政策为导向的国际研究和包括
中国在内的与其他国家的交流。
布什政府和公共服务学院还是乔治布什
中美研讨会的赞助者之一。此会议每2
年一届，为在得克萨斯州A&M 大学和中
国之间展开政策讨论、发展双边关系和
加强学术联系发挥了重大的作用。
