"In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in profession relevant to the course they teach."
提纲:
Position: Whether all faculty should go out for some works is relevant to the courses they teach really depends on the purpose of education and distinguishes from the courses the teach. That’s to say, it’s not practical for all the faculty to work outside the campus.
1. Illustrate the purpose and function of education.
2.For those inclined to the application field courses, it’s necessary and supportive to inspire the teachers to spend some time expanding their knowledge by working outside. Firstly, since they are taught primarily for application, except for the skills and knowledge themselves, the connection between theories and applications should also be transmitted to the students; There exist large gap between theories and actual application.
3. Secondly, if the professors go to their classes with fresh and interesting insights and perspectives, it will make students become more interested in the courses. Besides, by explaining the recent progress of the relevant career, it will be a great help for students to hunt a job.
4.Thirdly, more experience and larger extent of knowledge also make professors more sufficient and more professional, thus the whole level of the college will be elevated as well.
5 However, not all the disciplines are suitable for doing this. Those like mathematics, physics, history and philosophy which are pure theory research courses can hardly be combined with practical factors.

Due to the rapid development of modern society, people are putting more and more emphasis on the quality of education, especially higher education. It is said that one of the standard a country developed immensely depends on the level of its educational quality. Therefore governments are devoting to searching for every possible way to promote the quality of education. Under this situation, one method is advanced that all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in profession relevant to the course they teach. This method is mostly feasible, while I have some my own reservations.
First of all, whether teachers should work outside where they work depends on the courses they teach. According to my understanding, modern education have two main purposes: one is to cultivate students' brain, advance their intelligence and hence promote the whole nation's level, which is on spiritual layer; the other is to improve students' ability to find a job, which is more realistic. For those inclined to the application field courses such as computer and electronics, it is significant for the faulty to work outside to expand their extra experience. Since there lies considerable gap between theories which most students are taught all the time and the real applications which require more other capabilities like communication skills and cooperation abilities most of which students can not gain in schools. So based on the experiences faculty gain outside, they are able to convey not only boring theories and principles to their students, but also interesting and more realistic ideas and situations, which to some extent will help the students shrink the gap between campus and society.
Besides, plenty of curricula in campus are very boring and dryasdust. So when the professors come to their classes with interesting and fresh insights and perspectives, it sure going to intrigue students' interests and enthusiasm. In addition, more experience and larger extent of knowledge also do good to teachers. With these extra abilities, faculty will become more competence, sufficient and professional. All of these advantages will elevate the level of whole college.
However, despite all the merits above, there still lie limits. Not all the disciplines are suitable to make faculty to work outside. Such courses incline to pure theories as mathematics, physics, history and philosophy can hardly be combined with practical factors. Due to the properties of these curricula, it is hard to find relevant jobs in society. So it's unpractical to force faculty who teach these courses to work outside. It's no doubt that we compel a historic teacher to work in a society full with material desire is a waste of time. Therefore for these faculty, it is better to let them do their pure research in campus.
In conclusion, for those who teach curricula relevant to practical activities and applications, it is supportive and necessary to work outside where they teach to expand their experience and knowledge. But for those who teach courses decline to pure theories and principles, it is not practical and also difficult to work outside.
