5,在关注个人兴趣和社会需求间寻找平衡点
How to make education truly effective is a hot issue. In my opinion, we should find a balance between the individual interests and practical demands.
As is known to all, interest is the best teacher, Students have the insuppressible urge—goaded by his initial interest. Therefore, they are likely to be more actively engaged in and do better. For instant, besides studying the subjects in the curriculum, they will spend time reading reference books to get a further and somewhat more comprehensive understanding of the subjects, because their curiosity is aroused and become eager to understand it. On the contrary, when they are removed from the freedom to choose courses according to their own interests, they usually lose the interests or even feel disgust somewhat and resist it. Of course, this will do a lot of harmful to study.(总想举个例子,但没找到合适的,能帮帮我吗?)
In traditional mode of education, we have heard a lot about the arduous studying process many students have experience, when they are forced to learn a program they have no interest in. They have to remember a lot of terms and formulas for passing examination, and then forgot most of them after test. Under this circumstance, what education make are rigid examining machines rather than creative human. However, things can change a lot if education meet the needs of individual student .For students, they can put all of their energy into the fields they regards as their favorites, which would contribute much to their future research or jobs. For educators, they may find out more talents in all fields than before through investigating students' capabilities on their own study. As a result, the effect of education may be greatly improved.
However, we should take the contemporary educational resource into account. Compared to enormous students, the number of teachers is obviously far from sufficient, and so do libraries, labs and other educational facilities. Specifically designed education for every individual, ask for a great amount of time of teachers who will be otherwise improving their educational levels or imparting knowledge to a wider range of students. Moreover, it is hard for teachers to know every student so well as to give valuable and authorized advice before designing the individual education. Under such circumstances, we can’t expected much improvement in the quantity or quality effectiveness of education.
In this over-populated society, enterprises are more likely to employ new stuff who are professional on a special field. From this point of view, education should equip job seekers with more practice capability to succeed in the competitions. As a matter of fact, more and more American schools now are getting enthusiastic about teaching "life skills" as logical thinking, practice and creative problems solving. Some courses seem useless in the coming few days, but one may benefit much from them in the future. After all, students are not mature enough to make a wise decision of their future, thus they need to be guided and comprehensive cultivation. We should bear in mind that if the student can’t meet the demands of the society after graduation, their education can be considered as a failure.
Therefore, a better approach should be setting compulsory basic courses for a wide range of disciplines for all students, while granting them sufficient freedom in choosing courses for further study according to their personal interest. The basic courses can give students an overall knowledge of all kinds of disciplines, which is necessary for their everyday life. Then they can choose from these diversified fields what they find interesting or benefit. Since these choices are made on base of interest rather than obligation, students are likely to be motived to make much breakthrough. |
