There is a public debate on the issue that whether a smart friend is more important than a humorous one. Somebody maintain that a smart friend is better for his intelligence, while others think that the humorous one is more significant in the enthusiasm. When it comes to me, in weighing up both advantages and disadvantages, I prefer a smart friend.

First of all, the smart friend can teach us a lot in talking and working together. An intelligent person is always outstanding in many aspects, especially in researching and solving problems. When talking with them, we can always learn something new from their exceptional intelligence. For example, facing to a difficult problem, an ordinary person will always attempt to solve it step by step, while the smart one can easily find some shortcut to the solution by thinking at another aspect. Learning how and what a smart one does is a process of improving ourselves as well.

What’s more, only get along with friends with a great sense of humor will give us less help in improving ourselves or solving problems. Admittedly, the enthusiasm always performs a significant role in overcoming the obstacles when working on some extremely difficult problems. But only humor is not enough in arriving at the destination or finding the solution. We must try our best in thinking over and over before finding it out. Under such context, the intelligence weighs most, while the enthusiasm plays a less important role in this process. On the other hand, even the humorous friends help us more than the smart ones in such process, we can't oversee the effect our intelligent friends impact. In fact, many of our ideas and thoughts are influenced by or even learnt from our smart friends. In this word, the intelligent ones are more important in solving problems.

In sum, despite the humor one’s enthusiasm, and its function in overcoming difficulties, we should weigh more on the smart friends. With their help, we can improve ourselves to be a person with more intelligence.
