As the swift steps of times, today’s worldis so new and complex that we just could not imagine even yesterday. It seemsthat today's world is totally different from the old one; so do we still haveto look back for an understanding of the past as a guider for present? However,the answer is still yes for the reason that the "new world" is rootedin the old ones with the eternal human nature.


For individuals, as the famous thinker andwriter Bacon said, "Histories make men wise"; learning from historyprovides them inspiration and philosophy of life. Artists are usually inspiredby the historical works then create their new ones contenting some oldelements. The well-known example is the impressionism works: oil-painters in19th century who touched the Yamato-e from Japanhundreds of years ago were attracted deeply; they studied the color, thecomposition and other elements of Yamato-e then used them in their impressionismworks which are totally different from the oil paintings in the past of Europe. This instance reveals how the so-called oldschool elements influence present people and have a new life in today’sworld.
On the other hand, since theemotion, the relationship of human beings keep in a similar mode during ourshort history, learning from past will shows the true philosophy of life and ofcourse it will help today's people to live in present. For instance, people in20th century are still reading Bible to pursue the truth of life.


For groups, researching for a deepunderstanding of the past help them avoid the same mistakes as well as forecastthe future better for the reason that "coming events cast their shadowsbefore". There are similar rules among certain things. If you want tounderstand today; you have to search yesterday. Looking back to the past, theprohibition during 1920s shows that legislate morality is not wise neithereffective. So today, people choose other methods to control alcohol, such asforbidding teenagers from drinking and forbidden on driven after drinking.
In fact,
these solutions which is improved on from pastget a better result.


For a society or a nation, learning andstudying history is especially significant for persisting and developing theirown culture. Just looking back at the fabulous times of Renaissance whenscholars, scientists and artists all learnt from classical sources of the ancientGreek then continued to rebuild and develop their own culture. In all, theRenaissance could be viewed as an attempt by intellectuals to study and improvethe secular and worldly, both through the revival of ideas from antiquity, andthrough new method novel approaches to thought. In this case, the value of traditionand history is not only about persisting but also about developing.


In conclusion, though it seems that thesituation at this moment is changing all the time, there are some kept patternand rules to follow. Moreover, the human nature has not changed during ourshort history while the science and technology develop fast. History tells us secretesof all of them. It is like a mirror which reflects the future from the past.

总的来说，作者的逻辑非常清楚，这点非常值得我学习，我觉得AW最重视的是逻辑，可能语言是第二位的。建议：在例子上加强一点，认证再有力一点，感觉有时候认证不温不火的。
