Techniques and skills required include:

1.
Basic cellular and molecular techniques, such as human and mouse cell culture, western blotting, and gene transfection and expression in eukaryotic cells.

2.
Basic statistical background. It is better if the applicant also has programming experience.

3.
Skillful English writing (average oral English ability without affecting communication for international applicant).

Richard Hallworth

Position Description: Doctoral StudentDescription of Research:
My laboratory is interested in the structure and function of proteins involved in hearing, deafness, and in motile cilia.  We use state of the art biological, biophysical, molecular, and imaging methods, including patch clamp electrophysiology and confocal microscopy.  There are one, possibly two graduate student positions, starting as soon as you are available.  We seek forward-looking energetic Ph.D. candidates for any of a variety of fascinating projects.  No specific skills are required, just enthusiasm for the intellectual and technical challenges of laboratory science.
