It’s better to use own knowledge and experience to solve question, or ask other people for advice?
Everybody everyday confronts with all series of problems to be solved. Which is better, to use own knowledge and experience to solve questions, or ask other people for advice? I believe it is a long lasting debatable question in one’s life. And I believe people will give different answers in different situations.
From my point of view, it is better to use one’s own knowledge and experience to solve questions. First and foremost, it helps people to gain independence and bravery. Sima Guang, the famous brave loyal minister in China a thousand years ago during the Tang Dynasty, in his childhood, broke the large pot full of water by a piece of stone to save a little friend’s life who fell into it carelessly when playing in the garden, while other children ran with fear to adults to call for help. His independent and brave action saved the time, otherwise the friend would have drown to death. Second, it helps people to insist on his/her own point of view that lead him/her to gain deeper knowledge and obtain the vital success in the profession. Set my best friend and classmate Arthur as an example, he loves physics study and is addicted to it. He always has his idea on some questions and the methods to solve the question that differs to teacher’s. I once said to him, “Why not just follow our teacher and make things easier?” He smiled, “I enjoy the feeling of insisting on myself to step into a new land.” Now, he is the winner of several physical competitions. Last month he received the admission of Cambridge of physics major. I believe he will move on endlessly and achieve gorgeous success in the future.
However, in some situations it is wiser to ask other people for advice. It is ridiculous to concentrate into something in a false way. So make sure the method is correct and efficient. Nevertheless, it is necessary to learn from others when you start.
To put it into nutshell, using own knowledge and experience to solve questions is the optimal and ultimate way to achieve success, with wisdom as well.
