Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People can learn more from watching television than reading books. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer

Different people might have different opinions concerning the issue whether watching television or reading books is a better resource for learning. But as far as I see it, both television and books could offer us useful knowledge if we make use of them properly.

To begin with, television obviously could provide us with the opportunity to learn a lot of knowledge. Growing up in such a television era, moderners’ knowledge and our understanding of the world are greatly influenced by TV programs. We watch the everyday news to learn about the important events taking place in the world; we get in touch with the latest advancement of technology through programs focusing on that area; so on and so forth. In a sense, the boundary of our knowledge is greatly shaped by television programs. In fact, television is an effective learning tool because it offers a three dimensional channel for its views to understand a certain topic: vivid motion pictures with detailed descriptions, not to mention the specially designed editions to make the program easier to understand, all these could serve to give a strong impact on its viewers and create a lasing memory.

Also, the traditional reading still functions as a fundamental learning practice. Currently, no major schools have abandoned the use of text books to deliver knowledge to the students. And in fact, much of what I know, no matter it is concerning history, science, art, came from the text books. Book, since its beginning, is probably the mostly used means to not only document our ideas and thinking, but also to publish and deliver them. Thanks to the modern editing and printing technology, we are now able to produce mass books containing not only provoking texts, but also informative illustrations, all these developments make books even more important as transmitter of information and knowledge.

Still, we should note that, despite all the privileges of either television or book that are mentioned above, it is only when we use them appropriately could we achieve the most desirable effect for learning any knowledge. For example, we should avoid watching television constantly for a long time everyday because it will only cut off our channels to learn how to live a social life. Also, we need to carefully choose the books we read as to prevent us from being indulged into wrong theory or misleading information. In a sense, we need to use both television and book properly when we are learning.

To conclude, from my perspective, television and books are both effective tools for us to learn new knowledge as long as we make use of them in the appropriate way,
独自等待.默默忍受.
