Media, the eye of the world, is a dispensable part of modern life. Through media, people can easily know what is happening in the world. Nowadays, only by typing the website, such as Times, can a person in Shanghai grasp the occurrence in London. But since the headlines are inclined to focus on war, crime and other unwelcome news, some people seem to avoid reading newspaper and argue that to the current affairs is less valuable. However, after taking all aspects into account carefully, I am still in favor of the idea that knowing events happening is of great significance for individuals.

To begin with, the more a person knows, especially in his/her field, the more successful he/she will be. Along with the rapid development of society and technology, people cannot catch the pace of the times without a wide and contemporary view. Besides, the process of globalization makes one's success more tied to the world. For instance, Bill Gates, the distinguished businessman and programmer, must know the trend of computer science around the world. The program methods created by researchers, the problems reflected by users and the market condition are the factors of decision-making. He should have an eye on these events so that he can take the right step. If Gates only knows about his life in America, how can he lead Microsoft into such a big success？

In addition, people are prone to know interesting events so that they can relax from life pressure and acquire knowledge at the same the time. Every moment fun is put on the world stage. Individuals may skim over the happenings in different countries, such as soccer games in England, high-tech information in American and the like. Just take Chinese Kung Fu for example. Now more and more people become interested in it. Turning on the TV, they can enjoy a live Kung Fu show in Beijing. Meanwhile, people may gain common sense about the origin of Kung Fu. Thus, knowing events happening is not only a kind of refreshment but also an opportunity to learn.

Admittedly, there is no garden without weeds. What we cannot deny is that many events happening in the world are unpleasant, such as wars in Middle East, car accidents and pollution. When I got to know some seamen were killed by the pirates in Somalia last month, I felt terribly shocked and sad.

In a word, the advantages of progressing with times overweight the disadvantages. So, why not try to learn more?
