06/30/07: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Letting a friend make a mistake is better than saying or doing something that may destroy the friendship. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

What a true friend is? A large majority of people might tell you that the true friend is the one who tells teacher the truth about your deceit on an examination. Although it might destroy your precious friendship, you would never cheat again. How brave those friends are! However, I cast doubt on their behavior, as far as I am concerned, Mistakes are indispensable in process of growth, which we should welcome rather than avoid.

To begin with, not everyone would listen to others’ advice. Under some circumstances, giving some useful advice to your close friend is helpless. A experience of mine is an instance. One day I saw a friend cheating on an examination, I told him how bad it is, hoping him would not do it again after that text. But he did not take my friendly suggestion and persisted on cheating afterward. Finally he got caught, but he blamed that I was the one who had told the teacher about that. Our friendship was definitely destroied, although I did nothing except reminded him not to cheat on exam. At most of the time, when people do not realize their mistake, they would persist in going on their errors instead of listening to any suggestion. Catching two birds with one stone, it is wise to let bad things happen until them realize their mistakes, and at the same time keep your friendship.

Furthermore, scientists already proved that making mistakes is the best method on changing bad habits. Significant mistakes will be deeply in people's mind and they will not easily happen anymore. I am the one who welcome mistakes, which would make me more experienced. In the process of human life, we are facing a great majority of intersections, which confuse us on making choices. Sometimes we are lucky to take the right one, sometimes we fail. But mistakes are also meaningful to me, in which I obtain more than I can imagine. These valuable experiences accompanied me going though difficulties. Choosing to work after graduation is one of my errors, although parents and friends advised me to prepare for further study, I persisted in finding a job. One year later, I changed my mind, but it is too late. My friends have been abroad, I had to do all the preparation without any companions. However, I am happy that this mistake give me more energy for studying abroad, and after one year’s work, I completely know what I need to learn.

For the reasons presented above, I strongly contradict the statement that letting a companion make a mistake is better than giving advice which may ruin your friendship. In my viewpoint, we should hug mistakes instead of avoid them. Making mistakes is more powerful than any useful suggestions.
