Nowadays, the rhythem of the whole life is fast. People always try to reach their target in the most efficient way. It is common that we face competition in every realm. So we need to be realistic to survive in the mundate world. However, ideals which might be ignored by people who are busy pursuiting fame or profits are necessary for us to get success.
The standard of success today is whether you reach the aim no matter what method you use. People focus on the result rather than the procedure. So pragmatic behavior are so accoladed. In the business world, every action is for the profits. A practical businessman may lie to the customers or even do illegal things to satisfy his greedy. In the realm of politics, if the candidate intends to win the votion, he probably claims that he will spend money on the projects which will generate the most profit with the least costs. As someone once said, there is no eternal friend or enemy in the political world, we could see the friendship is based on the interests. Moreover, in society, people with much wealth is envied by the people around. All these can tell the people are getting more and more practical.
However, could we live in a world with just short- term goal and without ideals? The answer is no.
Pursuiting the short term goals is not wrong, but sooner or later we will feel lost because of no guidance. As a Russian wrier said, ideal is beacon. Without ideal, there is no secure direction; without direction, there is no life. People with ideals are full of enthusiasm. The things he does may not be understood by others, but he will insist it’s right doing them no matter what difficulty he will encounter. Marie Curie contributes all her life on her favorite science research. She endows all the award of Nobel Prize to her country and choose to live a austere life. It is no doubt she is an idealist who lives not for herself but for human beings. Matine Luther King, the freedom fighter, is totally an idealist. He fought for the freedom of black slaves and changed the fate of the United States. Even though he was hated by the officers and finally killed, nobody will deny he is a hero. In the history of human beings, ideals impulse the developing.
In conclusion, practical action and ideals are necessary for the development of ourselves and nations. Ideals points the directions so that we won’t get lost and practical actions will enable us to make the final aim come true. We need to connect this two aspects.
