109"The purpose of many advertisements is tomake consumers want to buy a product so that they will 'be like' theperson in the ad. This practice is effective because it not only sellsproducts but also helps people feel better about themselves."

Theme:The purpose of most advertisements is to inform, persuade, and finallymake consumers buy a product so that their needs and wants will besatisfied by the product. Although in some cases people feel better byimaging themselves to be like the person in the ad, this practice iseffective mainly because it facilitates the producer to meet thecustomers' unsatisfied needs, which will in turn generate the sales.

Para1:to circumscribe the terms in discussion: commercial advertisements,effectiveness discussed from the angles of the producers.
Para2(Main):to use marketing theory and consumer behavior theory to explain theeffectiveness of ads. Marketing theory is to explain the purpose ofproduction. Consumer behavior theory is to analyze the process ofbuying, highly influenced by the ads.
Para3:to mention that in some cases the effects of ad do make people feelbetter by imitating the person in the ad. For example, cosmetics ads.
