173The following is a memorandum issued by the publisher of a newsmagazine, Newsbeat, in the country of Dinn.

"Our poorest-selling magazine issues over the past three years were those that featured international news stories on their front covers. Over the same period, competing news-magazines have significantly decreased the number of cover stories that they devote to international news. Moreover, the cost of maintaining our foreign bureaus to report on international news is increasing. Therefore, we should decrease our emphasis on international news and refrain from displaying such stories on our magazine covers."

The memorandum indicated that the front cover is important for a magazine. I can’t agree with it any more. After all, the readers may denitrify a magazine by its cover. However, the speaker’s recommendation that the publisher should refrain from displaying international news on its magazine cover is unconvinced. In other words, there are several logical flaws existed in this memo. These logical flaws will be discussed in this article.

To begin with, the memo assumed that the front cover is the mere reason that attribute to magazine’s poor sale. It’s absolutely not objective since the speaker ignored a host of other factors that may have an effect on a magazine’s sales condition---such as the contents of the magazine, the picture it cited, or the kind of paper it used, etc. These factors may be more significant when concerned about the magazine’s sale. And an argument which merely concerned of a magazine’s cover when we analyze its sake is hardly convinced me.

Even though, we assume that the front cover is a crucial factor that can decides a magazine’s sale, the memo’s idea that the poorest-sellers are due to the front cover with international news on it is still problematic. The speaker hadn’t offered any information about its best-sellers. Such an argument(
会不会有更好的词?) without any comparison makes me feel unconvinced. It’s totally possible that there are piles of magazines with international news as their front cover contents are best-sellers. If this is the truth, the speaker may have to seek other reasons for its poorest-selling magazines.

Another doubtful point in this memo is that it’s presented its competing news-magazines who had decreased the number of cover stories that they devote to international news. What are consequences of their actions? If these motions of other publishers have nothing to do with improving their sales, or even made them suffered a decrease due to it. Then the speaker’s reasoning may go to a reverse conclusion.

Finally the speaker revealed that the cost of their foreign bureaus is increasing which actually weakened the argument itself. It seems more reasonable to put more international news on front cover since the news are more expensive than used to due to the increasingly fees.
In short, it’s no doubt that the front cover is an essential part of a magazine. But whether there is any international news on the front cover is not an essential factor that affects a magazine’s sale. The speaker should lend more sufficient support to substantiate his recommendation that the publisher need to cut down the number of international news on its magazine’s front cover.

The memorandum indicated that the front cover is important for a magazine. I can’t agree with it any more. 否定得太绝对了有时不是很好噢After all, the readers may denitrify这个单词不认识噢除氮氧化物?有什么特别的含义吗? a magazine by its cover. However, the speaker’s recommendation that the publisher should refrain from displaying international news on its magazine cover is unconvinced. In other words, there are several logical flaws existed in this memo. These logical flaws will be discussed in this article.(这样的开头很少见,但是一定要注意逻辑分析)

Another doubtful point in this memo is that it’s presented its competing(这个用法很怪,你确定没有错噢 我会用the  presented competing) news-magazines who had decreased the number of cover stories that they devote to international news. What are consequences of their actions? If these motions of other publishers have nothing to do with improving their sales, or even made them suffered a decrease due to it.这个需要改改 Then the speaker’s reasoning may go to a reverse conclusion.
