Is it right that it is artist rather than critic gives the society something of lasting value as the speaker asserts? While this claim may make some sense at certain circumstances, as far as I am concerned, both the artist and critic contribute to the lasting value of our world.

In the first place, artist creates works, through which we can gain more wonderful aspects in our community, that represent their impulse, creativity, emotion, or some hidden ideas in their time. For instance, we get to know the wonderful and odd life in western Europe through Notre－Dame de Paris. We can get the zest spirits in Mozart's music. All of these gave lasting value to our society throughout the history.

In the second place, the critic, who is specialized in evaluating works of all kinds of art forms, also assumes a significant role in preserving the arts and keep a lasting social value. To begin with, the critic helps people to insert insights to artistic works so that they gain a deeper and further understanding of the term. Consider Mona Lisa as a example, one of the greatest painting in history created by Leonardo de Vinci, without the interpretation of critics, it is hard for people to reach such a variety of understanding. Thus, not only artist but critic plays a equal considerable part in people's view of art.

Finally, the relationship between artists and critics are like that of a foundation and the building. To be more accurately, the artist and his works is like the foundation of a skyscraper, and it is the critic help to evaluate and construct it. If a certain art is of value, the critic will appreciate it and call for the public to enjoy it as well. Then, based on the artist's accomplishment, the building of the praise and acceptance is finally achieved. And, we can see that the artist may not survive without the critics. In addition, the function of the critic can not to gain if there is no artistic works at all.

Of course, however, exceptions indeed exist in spite of appearing rarely. When retrospect the history, we can see contemporary critics can make false criticism sometimes. Compelling examples involve Beethoven, whose new sort of symphony can not be appreciating by critics and public in his era. Ana, Shakespeare, one of the greatest English dramatists, experienced initially resistance that his works were regarded as nuisance by Voltaire. Consequently, although critics insert great significance to the appreciation of art, they should be smart enough to be ready to accept new art forms and ideas.

To sum up, both artist and critic are indispensible to the development and progress of the art area. The artists present their inner feelings through their accomplishments and the critics evaluate their value, through which process the value of each other is produced.
