Artistic creations play a very significant role in the civil development of humanity and society. Psychologically, art enhances life by adding beauty to our surrounding. Socially, Art has an effect by virtue of its capacity to embody symbolic significance to its audience, at the same time, Art fulfills a number of important educational function. Art is also employed as a means for historic function. Artic and critic both have, to same extent, different contribution to society on the art.
As for art beauty function, artic creates creation full of contemporary social situation and social culture by means of their own sensitivity, insight and creativity, but artists often create a particular piece based purely on their own personal desire for self—expression, Sometimes to the point of expressing disdain for what the vox populi states, leading to among the mass, there is few who understand and appreciate the creation. At this time, critic as a bridge between artist and people interpret the thought, elite of the work. So I think at this point, it is artic and critic who give the social something of lasting value.
However, if taking historic value of works into consideration. We should spend a few time thinking that it is artist or critic who gives the social something of lasting value. Some of the art works show artists own personal emotion, feeling. But some of them reflect the development trends of society or the subjective truth. Sometimes, it is only as a record means of history such <<Notre-Dame de Paris>> record the
bizarre life in paris. critic do criticism for those which tends to undermine and constrain the artist’s creativity and imagination because critic’s personal like and recognition may give artist limited and misleading feedback. At last, besides the above lasting value artists bring to society, there is another value—educational function coming into my eyes. Many artists who create their works are in a poor life without funding, many artists difficultly survive in the marketplace. such as
Van Gogh whose
persistent encourage generations. And then taking Beethoven as another example, although at last, his ear can’t hear anything, It is at his last period that he creates his marvel symphony. Their spirit also is the social lasting value and at this point, it is artists who give society something of lasting value.
