The honor code has proven far more successful: in the first year it was in place, students reported twenty-one cases of cheating; five years later, this figure had dropped to fourteen. Moreover, in a recent survey conducted by the Groveton honor council, a majority of students said that they would be less likely to cheat with an honor code in place than without."

To combat recently reported dramatic rise in cheating among college and university students, these institutions should adopt honor code similar to Groveton's(G's). The conclusion is well presented but there are several fail reason in it. And they will be discussed below.

Firstly, the conclusion depends on a assumption that different university and college have a same situation. However, common sense tells us each institution has its own characteristic, such as different character of student, different education standard. Perhaps the G's students are so conscious that the honor code is useful, but it is not means that honor is useful in other institutions which students in there are tempting to cheating easily.

Secondly,
the speaker asserted
the honor code has proven far more successful : before the honor code took , thirty percent of cheating per year were reported , the fist year take the honor codes students reported twenty-one case of cheating ; five years later this had dropped to fourteen. But, I need to confirm that weather the honor code is the only reason to the release the cheating phenomena. However, the speaker did not provide it. Perhaps the teachers monitor students at the same time. Or the students’ character have changed during these years. Because of there are lots of unconfirmed factor during these years, the speaker’s conclusion is unconvinced.
Thirdly, the survey in this argument is ambiguous, the respondents are G’s students or not.
If the respondents are G’s student, the student might tempt to agree with their own institution’s measure. What’s more the survey is conduct by the G college, so its might be a tendency to insist the honor code. Without the information, the survey could not indicate that honor code is useful.
In sum, the speaker advice is good for other institutions if the speaker can confirm that the honor code is useful, and will work in other institution.

Even these factor I mention before are neglected. The conclusion is unconvinced. Because all the numbers on which the conclusion rely are subjective. The case of cheating is only reported by students, we can infer from that some case of cheating did not reported. If so the phenomena of cheating is not relieve actually. Without provide  the evidence for these, the conclusion is unwarranted.
