As the world goes round, the human is moving forward all the time. However, some of basic human nature would not be changed in the course of human history, and that coming to understand this fact by studying history can be beneficial to illustrate the present and the future. So I agree with the statement with my own reservations. The two respects of the statement with which I disagree are follows. First, there are also significant differences between peoples of different time periods in other ways. Second, it hard to allege that “ to break the illusion” is the chief benefit of study history because there are other equally important benefits carried by history research as well.
I agree with the statement insofar as the study of history can make we appreciate the eternal basic human nature and the metaphysical principles behind the society; these would be constant over recorded time. The basic human nature includes motives and desires, as well as our fears and weakness. And the metaphysical principles behind the society mean the objective rules operating our progression. A better understanding of those is the basis to make effective policies for society problems. For example, according to fact that be testified in the history, everyone wouldn’t like their effort be ignored, so the leaders should reward the people who make significant contribution and penalize the one who violate regulations.
One of the basic philosophy principles is that change is absolute. So as we learn from the enduring basic human nature and the metaphysical principles unveiled by the study of history, we could not ignore the significance differences between people of different time periods. The living environment and the mainstream of culture of different time periods changed always. For instance, before the Industrial Revolution, almost all the country put their emphasis on agriculture, which is the dominant income for the people and the country as whole, now, in most of country’s economy; industry is the dominant contributor in GDP and takes the most governments concerns. To the individuals, people’s belief varied according the era. This is obvious in the youth. In 1980s, most Chinese student chose the engineering in college and now the most popular majors in college are economy, management and laws. This reflects the different need of society in different periods. Understanding the differences lies between people of different periods is essential for us to understand their behavior.
Another problem with the statement is that it ignores the other equally important benefits of studying history. As Bacon said “learning from history makes one wise”. We can get inspiration and encouragement from the history hero and events. Learning about the assiduity and fortitude of history achievers inspires us to similar accomplishments, especially, the adversity the history celebrities encourage me when I am in trouble. Many artists inspired by the history stories or achievers. The paintings about the history events are the best example.
In conclusion, the study of history not only tells us perpetual basic human nature and society principles but gives us the path of human developing. The perpetual things can be used in our daily life and the differences between different periods make we understand the people exactly. Both of them play important role in helping us a better life.

I agree with the statementinsofar as the study of history can make we appreciate the eternalbasic human nature and the metaphysical principles behind the society;these would be constant over recorded time. 每个观点都有合理的展开,I agree with 一段论证充分合理。One of 一段似乎全段都在论证一个basic philosophyprinciple, 不过最终观点很不错:Understanding thedifferences lies between people of different periods is essential forus to understand their behavior. Another problem一段应该是一个比较好论证的一段,可以再展开。
你的思路很清晰,再接再厉!
