The speaker asserts that because moral behavior can not be legislated, many problems of modern society cannot be solved by laws and the legal system. To be frank, I am only partly agree with this opinion when it comes to some particular regions.

In general, no matter law or morality, the aim of them is to make a rule for people to follow and help people to live in harmony with each other. Law is a tool to restrict people's behavior so that they can not do things threatening or doing harm to the freedom and rights of others, they can help us to think and judge in a sense way. Similarly, morality is used to restrict people's thought and insure that they will not say and do things which will not be accepted by the society, it helps us to think consider the feelings of others before making decision. The biggest difference is that, they get different punishments. Anyone who breaks the law would get punished by the law, but some moral faults may not get material and physical ones, the punishment is usually the condemning of the public and themselves. However, sometimes the fault one makes is both legal and moral, then he will get punished both physically and psychologically.


In our daily life, laws and morality are both helpful for us to form a peace, harmonious society. For example, if we have conflicts with others, considering that fighting will lead to illegal behavior, we will somewhat calm down and try to negociate with others. By communication, the problem is easier to be solved. Another example is that when Tom sees someone falling into the river and calling out for help, it is not his responsibility to save the person, but moral rules forces him to try his best to save the person. We can see from the analysis that both the law and the morality is inevitable in the regular running of a society.

However, there still exists some problems which can not be solved neither legally nor morally. For example, the maintenance of the old in China. Just as described by the author, it is a problem that law can not formulate, only depending on morality seems unlikely to be solved because of the economic condition of the daughters and sons is limited. But, when we give it a second consideration, we will find that it is not a problem of the law or morality, it is a problem caused by development of society, a lack of money for people and a lace of financial help by the authority. In every stage of society, existing some unsolvable problems is inevitable, but with the advancing pace of society, they will surely be solved.

In conclusion, we should see the problems existing in a optimistic way, and have confidence that law and moray can help to solve them in the long run.

In the statement, the author suggests that all patients who are diagnosed with muscle strain to take antibiotics as part of their treatment. The author mentions a research carried out by a study of two groups of patients. This argument depends on several unsubstantial assumptions and is therefore unpersuasive as it stands.

To start with, in the research, the author does not say clearly how do these patients are selected. Do they have similar age, health conditioning? To what extend are their injuries cured before taking this research? If there do exist difference, the result will be meaningless. Without giving this information, we can not see it as a research based on strict controls of extra independents.

Secondly, even if the extra independents are well controlled, the research still can not match the standard of formal research. As is stated, the two groups receive treatments not only different in medicine, but in doctor, this will make it hard to judge the cause of different cure effects. Maybe the patient treated the sports medicine specialist receive more scientific and more careful treatment. Maybe it is just the Placebo Effect, patients in group one believe firmly that treatment of a sports medicine specialist will help them get better soon even if the treatment of the two doctor is really the same, the cure speed may vary just because of patients subjective feelings.     

Thirdly, even if the treatment between a sports medicine specialist and a general physician are the same, without compared with other cure method, only seeing the treat effect of 40% faster than typically expected with the help of doctors, we can not make judgment whether it is the best way to take. And the results of a preliminary result can not be the only reason that makes patients to start using antibiotics. In addition, it is an experiment on patients with muscle injuries, while the aim of the author is to use antibiotics to cure patients with muscle strain. This is two illness caused by different reason, whether it will help to them need further research.

Last but not least, any use of biological medicine will to some extend do harm to patients body, reducing their system immune, not to mention some patients who are unable to use these kind of medicine. Forcing every patient to use this way of treatment is obviously not a good method.

To sum up, without providing sufficient support in patient features, treat methods of the two doctors and treat effects of other medicine, the author can not convince me that it is the best way to cure muscle strain by using antibiotics.
