TOPIC: ARGUMENT65 - The following appeared in a memo from the president of a chain of cheese stores located throughout the United States.

"For many years all the stores in our chain have stocked a wide variety of both domestic and imported cheeses. Last year, however, the five best-selling cheeses at our newest store were all domestic cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin. Furthermore, a recent survey by Cheeses of the World magazine indicates an increasing preference for domestic cheeses among its subscribers. Since our company can reduce expenses by limiting inventory, the best way to improve profits in all of our stores is to discontinue stocking many of our varieties of imported cheese and concentrate primarily on domestic cheeses."

The memo claims that all of the cheese stores should discontinue stocking the imported cheese and concentrate primarily on domestic cheeses in order to reduce the expenses and improve profits. In addition, the author provides the evidence that the five best-selling cheeses at our newest store were all domestic cheddar cheeses and the recent survey from Cheeses of the world magazine to suppport that the domestic cheeses are well selling. However, the argument has many fakes in its exmples and reasoning, which may disagree with the argument.
Firstly, although the domestic cheeses are better selling than the imported one, the new evidence and the survey may not support the argument that we should not sell the imported. The memo deosn't provides the details about the demands of the market, there may be still a lot of demands on it. In that case, drop to sell the imported cheeses means to lose the customers who are favored in the imported cheeses.
Secondly, the imported cheeses may be sold at a high prices and can get more profits, although it may not sold as much as the domestic. The assumption that the company can reduce to store the imported cheeses can imporve the profits may disagree with the fact of that. The author needs to provide more datas about the cost and the price of the imported cheesses and the domestic cheeses to support the assumption.
Thirdly, the Memo provides the records from the newest store and the recent survey from the World magazine to support the conclusion that the domestic cheeses are selling better than the imported one. In spite of this, the memo doesn't provide the details about the survey including the survey scope, the demographics and so on. Since these factors may strongly affect the results. The preference of the customers from the variety regions may totally different. Since that, the memo seems to exaggereate the representation of the records and the survey, and the conclusion may not set up.
In sum, the conclusion that the entire cheeses store should reduce to stock the imported cheeses can improve the profits may not established since the memo doesn't provide the enough details about the market, the records and the survey. Still, the memo also failed in the reasoning and provides the doubtable assumption.
