TOPIC: ISSUE185 - "Scandals-whether in politics, academia, or other areas-can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."

As many scandals had happened in politics, economics, academia, and so on, they have been increasingly focused on and cause a significant issue: are scandals really useful? As far as I am concerned, even if scandals may distract attention from many other affairs, the benefit they bring to human is far more meaningful.
Admittedly, scandals always attract public attention from many other so-called important things. And as we all known, the front-page of newspapers, the top line of portals and video news are always scandals of some famous people. As everyone have his own work to do and there are so many important things that worth attention, scandals, to some degree, overshadowed human's attention on the other things.
However, scandals can reveal the nature of problems and make people thinking about their morals and as a consequence need to be focused on too. It's the scandals that reflect the truth which is not always mentioned by speaker or reformer. As no one is perfect, mistakes and errors are not that terrible but valuable to everyone for the reason that they can point out what is to be improved by oneself. It is said that mistake is the mother of success. If one cannot realize his falsify, how can he correct it and be a better man? For example, even though Michael Jackson had once taking drugs and catamite, he admitted his mistakes and compensate for the casualty after the scandals was exposed to the public. Until now, Michael is still one of the greatest super stars in our minds. The value of scandals is to reveal mistakes and make individuals correct them.
What’s more, on a social level, scandals can bring reform to systems of some areas or even the whole society. Bernard Madoff, the CEO of Madoff investment company, an American former financial and convicted felon defrauded thousand of investors of billions of dollars. After his crime was exposed, the whole American society became thinking about the financial system and take action to emerge from the financial crisis.
All in all, even though scandals always attract public attention from many other important things, they are also meaningful because scandals can reveal the nature of problems and make people thinking about their morals. What's more, on a social level, scandals can bring reform to systems and refresh the air of some areas. To have a better judgment, one should not be confused by the complexity of the exterior, but should have a careful analysis and deep thinking and then correct one's own behavior. Only in this way, the value of scandals can be developed.
