Nowadays, pragmatism, treated as the code of survival, outstrips the idealism in almost every field. However, though, I will not deny the viability and significance of pragmatism, I will still stand in favor of the idealism for it's the source of inspiration, hope
and serves as the unfailing drive to urge people move forward. In my opinion, Idealism collaborated with the pragmatism yield the success at the lowest cost.

Pragmatism aims at the short-term achievement while Idealism attempt to achieve the long-term goal.

The business world stands as the best example to embody the benefit yielded by the collaboration of two pattern of thought. In the field of business, where the practicality put on the priority of the agenda, any stratagem and investment are made to gain the financial rewards. The gap between cost and income determines the survival of the company. Thus, the pragmatism takes effect in any decision making such as the deadline for products, profits margin and the order. In the meantime, such aspects of reputation and stable development, the so-called long-term goals, are also taken into consideration in any decision-making. Recently, after-service tends to take a bigger proportion in the budget.

The scientific research also entails both the practical and idealistic view to render itself efficient and dynamic. On one hand, such research as Computer Science, architecture, chemists and pharmaceutics are carried out to meet the practical demand of social development. Considering its short-term profits, more money and efforts are paid.
On the other hand, emphasis has also been laid upon researches like astronomy and environmental protection, the apparently unpragmatic ones, for the reason that they also benefit us human being, though not immediately, by construct a promising world for the generations to come.

Finally, as for the politics in general, pragmatics as well as idealism are prevalent in the process of legislation and election. Such issue as regional disputation, population and environmental protections which is closely relevant to our lives are the concerns of politicians. The achievements in dealing with such issue have a direct influence on whether the government can withhold its status in the election to come. The Republic failed in the election for the unacceptable performance of George W. Bush, the former president from the Republic. However, it is not the incompetence to provide the desirable welfare alone leads to the defeat in the election, but the fallacious thirst for war that agitates the U.S. civilians to vote against the Republic. In another word, it is the underlying faith such as democracy, equality and fairness that plays a crucial role in the politics. Idealistic, though, the faiths come to be, they act as the code or hope, to guide people's political deed. The same goes to the adherents of the Lincoln and Martin Luther King, who values more the human rights defended in the Civil War than the satisfactory performance of those two national heroes. Therefore, idealistic believes counts in political affairs.

To sum up, almost all aspects of society embodies the effect of idealism as well as the pragmatism, which work in pair to bring about the success. To ensure our success, we need to uphold the idealism as the long-term goal while put them into smaller practical aims to render the goal attainable.
