TOPIC: ISSUE121 - "At various times in the geological past, many species have become extinct as a result of natural, rather than human, processes. Thus, there is no justification for society to make extraordinary efforts, especially at a great cost in money and jobs, to save endangered species."

Do we have any responsibility nowadays to spend our fortune and time to save the endangered species? The author said no. However, in my point of view, it is, with no doubt, a necessity for us human beings to save them.
In the first place, i must concede that, in the past time, many species have become extinct as a result of natural selection. As famous philosophist Darwin said, the species, living on Earth, are competing for space and materials all the way along. Where there are benefits, there are competition. Whatever, after the struggling of both sides, there always will be the losers having to leave, and there will also be the winners picking up all the benefits. Then the ones who leave are such species that are mentioned not adapted to the natural environment, and finally they can not avoid the destiny of dying out. That's the natural selection. Always on-going.
Nevertheless, the natural processing is such a kind of procedures that contributes to the progress of the Earth's culture. It's a kind of power that is always pushing our planet forward the more beautiful future. That is to say, the selection of nature is promoting the natural environment or ecology into a better situation that is more suitable for all the species to be developping in. They die or evolute, is the actual destiny that they can not run away from, which is the normal consequence of the processing of nature. Hence, without the human beings, it can be ordinary, but with the existence of humans, it can not be analyzed as the same way as before.
In the second place, the dangerous status of many species over the world are mainly caused by the human's lavish exhaust of materials such as minerals, tremendous pollutions emitted by the industry and the overuse of the earth. In a word, human is killing them. For example, in China, due to the excessive damage made by people to the forests, many rare animals are dying out, such as pandas and tigers. Perhaps, with abundant trees and food, they might live a better life and avoid the unfortunate fate of death. If we focus our attention on the rivers in China, we may surprisingly find that most of them are extremely polluted, which may leads to the death of fishes in large scale. For instance, the Taihu Lake, located in the east of China, has suffered from a most heavy pollution last year, making all of the fishes dying all in a sudden. And the citizens are also affected by the dirty water due to the high level of pollution. That's what human does. Thus, as the trouble makers, we are responsible for these species and should spare no effort to save them.
Last but not the least, to protect the species, in some degree, is to protect the environment that we human beings live in. We are not living alone. We need other species to develop together. If we are so selfish that neglect the others' existence, we will definitely be punished by the nature. The absent of some certain species will leads to the chaos of all the food chains in the ecosystem. And after that, more species will die away and definitely there is much chance that the human beings are involved in a much hard situation that can extremely obstacle the normal development of our civilization. So it is also important to save the species as the benifits of our own.
To sum up, the Earth is not the human's own. It's of all the species. Thus, it is our responsibility to save the endangered species, as we have already done so much damage to them. |
