The relation of mistakes and discoveries is always sophisticated and subtle. Yet, it is significant and desirable for us to analyze it comprehensively. Undeniably,  sometimes mistakes do bring us  inspiration and lead us to the discovery and process. This has been supported by the numerous progresses committed by our predecessors. However, the necessary connection between mistakes and discoveries does not exist and it is shallow to say that the mistakes is the only source of discoveries and process.

To begin with, I concede that the truth is  intricate and slippery , and it always hides itself among the mistakes. Thus many discoveries comes after eliminating mistakes around them, maybe a fairly big amount of mistakes. Society has progressed in the process of correcting those mistakes.  The contribution of Tomas Edison, a prolific inventor, to the perfection of electric light bulb  can well underscores this point. Light bulbs existing prior to Edison's effort could not burn for a long time – the best record is 13.5 hours, which is far from commercialization. Edison and his team experimented thousands of filaments to find just the right materials, during which the lasting time was enhanced successively to  40 hours, 100 hours and 1500 hours.  After suffering so many mistakes and frustrations , Edison and his team invented a practical light bulb and paved the way of the establishment of the electrical power system.

Beyond this concession, however, I still cannot totally agree on this statement because it seems to recommend that the necessary connection existing between mistakes and discoveries or progressed. In fact , many discoveries,  most of the which are not related to science and technology, do not have any mistakes.Consider , for example, the discovery of America, which provides new areas for people to settle and thus reduce the population density of the area where they originally had been residing. There is no technical 'mistake' that is associated with such discoveries and process will not be the result of any mistake.

On the other hand , mistakes will not automatically lead to discovery; they can only provide an opportunity and direction. Anyone maintaining this argument must be a opportunist, who attempts vainly to evade the failures and fake success. Thus, it is wise and imperative that realized that it is one's attitude when confronting with a mistake that and courage  to conquer it that make sense, rather than the mistake itself. We must bear it in the heart that mistakes will not be frightened as long as we are not too arrogant and stubborn to analyze every failure and find its cause calmly. Meanwhile, it is also important not to regret and be discouraged so that we can defeat the mistakes successfully.

From the analysis made above, I concede that sometimes mistakes are inevitable and yet mistakes may lead to discovery and process. Nevertheless, it is absolutely another mistake to maintain metaphysically that mistakes and discoveries are twists and indiscerptible. In the final analysis, what we should do when confronting a mistake is to analyze the cause of it and correct it, rather than just sit there waiting for it emerging again.
