With the highly development of technology and science, increasingly technological products such as video camera have playing more significant roles in people's daily life. There is always a debate on whether the video camera could become a more important form of documentation than written records. As far as I am concerned, the video camera do has some advantages, however, the written records are have a same indispensable role that could not be completely replaced.

To begin with, the video camera could record phenomena and affairs more directed and accurate, which provide us even more convincing statistics and data. As the video camera show a highly objective view of what happened by its high clarity and long recording time, we could use it to record many things which could not be presented by traditional ways. For example, no matter how fast is a journalist writes, he could not write down every words the interviewer say, and even he could record every words, it is no way to record the tone and attitude, which could help understanding of the speaker's words more accurate and directed, without the help of video camera. What's more, there are some phenomena which could not be presented vividly, or even could not be imagined for most of people without the direct observation. For another example, the eruption of volcanoes, the scenery of waterfalls and some other natural scenery could not be record accurate by the written words. In this way, it could provide enough scientific statistics that could be used for researching and learning. Also, sometimes, people use video camera to record some meaningful events in their lives, such as a birthday party, a basketball game, marriages, the first word that said by a baby or something else. The video camera has an increasing importance because of its ability of recording accurate and convincing.

However, for many people, the video camera is too expensive to afford, and it is not used frequently in daily life. Comparably, the equipments for written records, such as pencils and papers, are so cheap that everyone could use them if they want. For example, even if the video camera could present more accurate information which could benefit research and learning process, how could we ask an African child who is still struggle on the boundary of starving to buy a video camera for learning more accurate information? For this group, the written documentation is totally enough.

Additionally, there are also many things could only be recorded by written documentation. Video camera could only show the outward directed phenomenon, while the written words could record the inside feelings of human beings, the psychological activity and some abstract rules such as the laws. We could neither expect that the video camera could record the sadness, happiness, the struggle in heart, nor the accurate information of how the laws could be used to restrict people's behavior and prevent committing. For an ordinary example, the feeling of reading a fiction and watching a movie is totally different, because even though the movie is more vivid, the fiction could present the inside psychological activity more accurate.

To sum up, the video camera could record some phenomenon more accurate and convincing, however, the written records are have a same indispensable role because they are very cheap and could record the inside feelings and some abstract rules vividly.
