The issue about the education in college or university is always controversy in the debate. The statement above speaks that all nations should help support the development of a global university intending to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems. However, I do not agree with it completely. In my point of view, whether a nation supports such a university is dependent on the concrete situations in the nation, taking several factors into account.
To begin with, it is important to investigate and remind the economic condition of a certain nation when the above question is being considered. At first, different nations have distinct environments. Especially, the difference between developed and developing countries can be extremely large. Thus, the absolute conclusion adapted to all the nations is hard to be persuasive. Then, for further consideration, the economic condition of each nation is also varying. There is really exists a nation which is so weak in economics that it is difficult for them to spend money on the development of a university, such as some countries in Africa. What's more, the lifestyles of all the nations may also differ. For example, some countries in Africa may still live in an old-age life, which makes them place less emphasis on the development of society and even economics. In this case, it is hard for them to develop such a global university.
Secondly, the most persistent social problems globally might be not closely relevant to the nation's own situation. As we all know, every country has its own environment and developing pattern. That is to say, some problems that occur in the other areas in the world may not happen in a certain country, thus it is no more effective to develop a university for solving such problems unrelated to its society. For instance, in China, it is urgent to solve the problem concerning the population due to its huge population of 1.3 billion. On the contrary, in Europe, the population of each country is really low, thus the society won't be influenced by any problem associated with large population of a nation. Therefore, to study the problem in Europe might be probably looked as a waste of time.
Argue一下,可以同时研究很多问题,而且不同国家事情有轻重之分,按你的理论联合国大会就没意义了,经常讨论与自己国家无关的事件.再者,你也无法指望这么一所大学真的可以解决问题,还得靠全人类努力
Last but not least, solving the social problems, in theory, merely in a college or university does not necessarily means truly solving such problems. Common sense tells us practice is the principle to judge truth. It is important to make some researches on the social problems. However it is more important to apply such methods and solutions found by the university to the real society. Only when the research and the study connected to the real environment can they be more practical and effective. Take an old story as an example, in the ancient China, there is a soldier who had great achievements in the theory of war and campaign. But when he was sent to instruct an army to defeat the enemy, he always made decisions according to the war books he had read before and neglected the real situations. Finally, without any doubt,(可以尝试用undoubtedly) he lose and was blamed for the failure of the war. That is to say, without any practice, the mere theory can be unhelpful to solving the problems.

To sum it up, it is acceptable for some but not all countries, which is superior in the development of economics and academy, to help support the development of a global university engaged in solving the world's most persistent social problems, in consideration of the economical environment and the social style. And it is vital to take the theory into practice, making the theoretical solutions to the real society, in order to render the solutions more suitable and effective.
对于这个topic,感觉谈谈global university这个理念的好处和坏处会比较好,不宜把太多笔墨focus在到底对实际解决世界问题有多大作用。作者貌似太着重实际的profit,而没有关注这个理念的好处和坏处 |
