In this argument, the author claim that the increased level of melatonin before birth can lead to shyness during infancy and this shyness would continue into later life. To justify this claim, the arguer cites a result of the study that 25 infants who showed signs of mild distress when exposed to unfamiliar stimuli or unknown voice. Although this argument seems well-presented at the first glance, a careful examination of it would reveal how groundless the conclusion is.

In the first palace, the study the author provided is insufficient to support the conclusion drawn from it. The sample number of infants is limited, thus it is logically unsounded to establish a generally conclusion.  Besides, we found no sign of procedures for random sampling, thus doubting whether the infants are representative of the all the infants. If the infants were selected from a certain city or geographic region, the result would be highly suspected.

In the second palace, even the study is validity the,  author cannot convince me the infants were shy due to lacking the information about the criterion regarding what behavior can be considered to be shy. Just owing to infants showing signs of mild distress when exposed to unfamiliar and stimuli, the author cannot assert that they are more bashful compared with other infants. Until all these question are answered, the conclusion drawn from it is completely unwarranted..

Last but not least, the authro commits a fallacy of casual relationship between the increased level of mother's production of melatonin and the shyness during infancy. The line of reasoning is that because these infants were conceived in early autumn, and production of melatonin is increase in the autumn due to decreased daylight, the melatonin is responsible for the shyness of the infants.  However, this if fallacious reason unless the other possible causal explanation have been ruled out. For example, perhaps the shyness is caused by people's eating habits in autumn..

To sum up, the argument is not persuasive as it stands because the evidence cited in the analysis does not lend strong support to what the arguer maintains. To strengthen the argument, the author would have to give more information about the study. Moreover, the author must provide evidence to rule out other possible causes of the shyness during infancy. Otherwise, the arguer is simply begging the question throughout the argument.

In the first palace(place?下同), the study the author provided is insufficient to support the conclusion drawn from it. The sample number of infants(the number of getting sampled enfants) is limited, thus it is logically unsounded to establish a generally conclusion.  Besides, we found no sign of procedures for random sampling, thus doubting whether the infants are representative of the(去掉) all the infants. If the infants were selected from a certain city or geographic region, the result would be highly suspected.

In the second palace, even the study is validity, the  author cannot convince me the infants were shy due to lacking the information about the criterion regarding what behavior can be considered to be shy.(这句话够纠结) Just owing to infants showing signs of mild distress when exposed to unfamiliar and stimuli, the author cannot assert that they are more bashful(?) compared with other infants. Until all these question are answered, the conclusion drawn from it is completely unwarranted..
