It is the artist who creates the artworks, it is the critic who evaluates the artworks and recommends the outstanding ones to the society. As the relationship between chef and gastronomist to a tasty meal, both of them have significant contribution to lasting value to society.

The value of an artwork usually has two types: the artistic value and the commercial value. The commercial value, regarded as a monetary measurement of the artistic value, includes the cost of the material, the price people can afford, etc. Such factors are not stable for they can easily change on the market. In contrast, the artistic value, which has two parts——the pleasant an artwork can give to people and the criticism or emotions the artist want to express, is the main value for which the artwork exists, it will not changed once the artwork complete and can be passed from one generation to another, so it deserves the name of lasting value.

Obviously, the artist is the essential part of the artistic value for he is the maker of an artwork. An excellent artist must have some outstanding abilities to achieve a masterpiece.  For example, a master sculptor must has considerably accurate sense of three dimensional objects, such as the sense to distance and weight. He can mentally visualize a complex form from different point of views. He can also realize the volume, as the space the object displaces in the air. All of these are the abilities which a normal person lacks of. So the sculptures of the great master, such as Statue of David of Michelangelo, can vivid show a wonderful combination of braveness, calmness and wisdom while other people can not express it so deeply and precisely.

However, the critic is the power of making people appreciate the artistic value of an artwork better and lifting up its commercial value by the way. Without his help, even the greatest artworks could still be in obscure. For example, Van Gogh had sold only one of his works during his life, but some of his works were sold out in an extremely high price after some critics realized their artistic value and regarded them as a milestone of art. The story shows us the importance of critics, because they are much more professional in arts than normal people who cannot even tell the difference between an excellent work and a common one distinctively. They can also use their influence to promote excellent artworks to society. Further more, they can create some associations to show their authority, or offer endowment to encourage artists. For instance, the National Endowment of America (NEA), exhibits many excellent artworks to a large number of viewer all over the country. With critics' work of picking masterpieces up from common artworks, these masterpieces will be widely regarded and have a high price on the market. In addition, as the new media, such as Television and Internet, develops very fast, the influence of critics is becoming larger and larger as their criticism, no matter positive or negative, will spreads out all over the world quickly.

In all, the artist plays a key role in the process of artwork creating, but it is the critic's main contribution to make the society appreciate these artworks. The lasting value to society cannot exist without either one of them.

It is (强调句的that不能省略吧)the artist whocreates the artworks, it is (同前面)the critic who evaluates the artworks andrecommends the outstanding ones to the society. As the relationshipbetween (缺冠词)chef and gastronomist to a tasty meal, both of them havesignificant (缺冠词)contribution to lasting value to society.

The value of an artwork usually has two types(这个句式比较中式……): the artistic value andthe commercial value. The commercial value, regarded as a monetarymeasurement of the artistic value, includes the cost of the material, the price people can afford, etc.(对afford持保留意见:艺术品市场从来不是薄利多销的) Such factors are not stable for theycan easily change on the market. In contrast, the artistic value, whichhas two parts——the pleasant an artwork can give to people and thecriticism or emotions the artist want to express, is the main value forwhich the artwork exists, it will not changed once the artwork complete(
completely)and can be passed from one generation to another, so it deserves thename of lasting value.(建议将句子的结构重新整理,或者写成简单句)
(作者写这段应该是为了下一段做铺垫,但铺垫的效果并不明显,反而显得有点累赘)

promote的使用不是很恰当的感觉) excellent artworks to society. Further more, they can createsome associations to show their authority, or offer endowment toencourage artists. (这段大大强调了
critic的作用…………但接下来那段又说artist才是KEY,作者的表述重点似乎偏移了

In all, the artist plays a key role in the process of artwork creating, but it is the critic's main contribution to make the society appreciatethese artworks. The lasting value to society cannot exist withouteither one of them.

文章的结构不够清晰:作者没有 把握好last value 的深层含义,在平衡论点的时候重心也偏移了,使文章显得凌乱。
另:语法问题应注意
