TOPIC: ISSUE144 - "It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value."
*a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.
In the realm of art, artists are undoubtedly the major roles, who are believed to create the lasting value for the society. However, we can't overlook the important roles the critics play in creating such eternal values and fortune. As for me, it is the artists and critics both contribute to the great value of the masterpieces of arts and the value will be diminished without either of them.
Fundamentally, it is the artists found (感觉是created) the basic of these eternal values of arts. The masterpieces of are the subjective representation of the artists' talented idea and impressive fantasy.
In absence of certain great artist, we cannot imagine some masterpieces would be there for our descendants to appreciate its beauty. Without Shakespeare, we may lost (lose) the chance to read the Hamlet and meditate the famous question "to be or not to be". Without Shelly's romance, how were we fascinated by his outstanding lyric poems? Without Beethoven, the Song of Joy may never be brought about as the excellence of symphony. Most of the masterpieces are the unique expressions of genius's highly creativity and cannot be reproduced. In this sense, the artists play an indispensable role in giving the society things of lasting value.
However, the vital(么查到这个用法,加个importance) of artists in creating such lasting value don't mean that we can deny the contributions of the critics. What is less recognized is that the review and examination of the art works, done by the critics, is also a highly subjective procedure as well as the artists on their way to create. To some extent, the critics are recreating the arts, which brought value on the work of the arts.
To begin with, the critics discover and deepen the value of the work, which to extent turns them into masterpieces. The discovery of works of Vincent Van Gogh is a vivid example of this.
When Van Gogh paint(paints) his great work, they are disparaged by his time and were thought strange and worthless. As the lapse of time, the critics discovered the heated passions and beauty of these works, which made these works, become extremely valuable. Without them, we may lost these masterpieces in the long river of history. Besides these discoveries, the critics play an important role on deepening the values of the arts. There was a time that the literary salons were popular in Europe, where critics are converging to discuss the pros and cons(用这个形容艺术品,么见过。Beauty and deficiency?自己看吧。)
of the newly created work of literary. Their constructive advices are good supplement of the writers. Although they are not obvious as the concrete work of arts,(感觉又问题) they are of great value for the creation of masterpieces.
Moreover, the critics who are familiar with the works of arts help the ordinary people understand and appreciate the art, which significantly broaden the value of the works. Take the novel "The Dream of Red Chamber" as example, which perhaps has been the greatest Chinese novel ever since. The study on this novel, so called the Redology, is the creation of the thousands of scholars and critics in Chinese. Their developing and explanations on almost every aspect of the great novel draw the attention of people and greatly contributes to its eternal value. Similarly, if there were not the critics, how many of us can honestly claim that we understand the abstract painting of Picasso? Then will the works of Picasso still as valuable as they are nowadays? Critics also make their efforts towards the eternal value of the masterpieces of arts.(这个立意好~~~闪~)
In conclusion, vital as the artists is ,we cannot overlook the functions of critics. Both of them are in cooperation to give society something of lasting value. They supplement each other. As times passes, the greatest works are those which are created by artists and evaluated by critics.(我觉得结尾最好再重复一下评论家的两个作用,开头要简介,开门见山,结尾要充分展示观点~)
评语:真是越写越好了。I的模板也不错,一正两反,转折很充分~都没什么在结构,立意上要改的地方。最主要的还是有自己的思想~~BB觉得绝对够5分啦~~~
