In this contention, the speaker asserts that loyalty, a virtue most people are taught, is all too often a destructive rather than a positive force, when relevant to whether one’s friends, one’s school or place of employment, or to any institution. In a sense, I concede that the virtue, loyalty, play a vital role in many fields. However, the speaker seems to make a bit extreme assertion that it is all too often a destructive rather than a positive force and therefore his or her position is suspended to some extent.
Admittedly, history lender a considerable support to this notion that most people are taught that loyalty is a virtue. Without the loyalty of his subordinates, Octavianus would not become the greatest emperor in the history of Roma Empire. On the other hand, we need to look no further than Van Gogh, who did only sell on of his painting in his career and suffer form poverty, became one of the most prominent artists in the world in later time with the strong loyalty to art. There are a considerable number of stories and facts similar to those offered above, people learn the knowledge and experience from them and they become more and more understand what is the virtue called loyalty.
Notwithstanding the foregoing proviso, I am hard-pressed to agree the assertion entirely. When it comes to the relationship between friends, loyalty always regarded as the prerequisite of friends. Loyalty enables people to tell secret decisions and heartbreaking sadness to friends who could keep secret and give some admirable feasible advice since friends do not merely mean the share of happiness. Besides, in school, loyalty plays an essential part in conduct the young’s attitude, since loyalty is the basic morality of human and it should be build in the childhood. What’s more, loyalty is a more vital attitude to the teacher who needs to be the example for the youth.
Furthermore, in the realm of business, loyalty is an indispensable virtue to only the leaders but also employees. Consider, for example, cooperation and communication always regarded as the prerequisite to bring about success in business. However, without loyalty individuals might not combine to achieve the goal with excellent team, because they might their own interests in the first place instead of the company’s. Then cooperation and communication can’t be achieved entirely, since people can’t receive significant information and knowledge from others. Just as the Chinese saying goes: “Unity is the strength”, under no circumstance should we neglect the significance of loyalty.
In summary, I concede that most people are taught that loyalty is a virtue. However, I do not agree with the speaker’s notion entirely, since he or she might overlook the critical influence of loyalty when taking in the importance in the relationship between friends, in one’s time in school and one’s work in business into consideration. In this way, loyalty is too often a positive rather than a destructive force. |
