What is the chief benefit of studyinghistory? The speaker believes that studying history we can realize that ourlife do not totally different from people who lived at any other time. As faras I am concerned, every generation has its own feature and though studyinghistory, we learn from it and make our life better.



Admittedly, a great number of traditionsand customs have been preserved and handed down from our ancestor. In thissense, our living is somewhat similar the people lived in before us. Forexample, rice is the main food in our regular diet nowadays. It is our ancestorwho discovered rice is delicious and its amount is plentiful which suited forhuman being's main food. In the foreseeable future, our offspring will stillenjoy rice as we tell them rice is breeding you up. What's more, our judgmentfor good and evil is not changed from these people who lived at any other time.Diligence and perseverance is always viewed as crucial element for success, andcheating is never accepted by people different time.



However, we should concede that every generationhas its unique feature. The ever-growing science and technology reshape our societyand improve people’s life. It is fantastic for these people who lived atancient time believe them can fly like eagle one day. But since the inventionof air plane, we really can fly and fly much quicker than an eagle. It is alsohard for these earlier people to anticipate standing in remote site they canalso see and talk each other. By means of telecommunication or Internet, weachieve that and we communicate with our family and friend by telephoneeveryday. These high-tech inventions render our living quite different frompeople lived in any other era.



In the realm of politics, the disparity ofliving between different generation people is also obvious. Take the ancient China for example, Qin Shi Huang, the firstemperor of Chinaruled and control everything while citizens in that time had not freedom atall. Anyone who say something against Qin Shi Huang will be killed and so theirfamily. So people lived in Qin dynasty is miserable. That’s absolutelydifferent from the current society in UnitedState of America. Freedom is the basic humanright and democracy is the society’s goal. When citizens find a governmentofficial who is suspicious to corrupt, they can ask the official to clarifysuspicion. If he fails to do that, he will be sent to court. So the disparityin politics among different periods is very apparent.



Furthermore, I should point out anotherchief benefit of studying history, maybe more important than what the speakerclaims, is providing a mirror for us to judge right and wrong and avoiding makesimilar mistake again. Just as the old saying: anyone who ignorant of whathappen before he born would remains him as a child. History is a wonderfultextbook that replete with wisdoms and experiences for us to learn. Manysituations in today are probably occurred before. Therefore, when we deal withsome affairs, especially these we have no idea of, look back and find answer inthe history will be helpful. This also prevents he from falling into a trapagain when he finds someone who in similar situation as him. In fact, anyoneneeds to learn something from history because one has not enough time andenergy to practice everything by himself, but he can absorb a lot of valuableexperience from history.



In conclusion, studying history isessential and makes us grow. From that, we perceive not only the similarityamong different time’s people, but also comprehending that people in one timeare various from another time. Studying history has so many merits so that weshould never overlook to open the history books.
